The Golden State Warriors acquisition of restricted free agent forward Ronny Turiaf has been finalized, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today. The acquisition became official when the Los Angeles Lakers declined their right, under terms of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, to match the Warriors' offer for the restricted free agent by the end of the day on Friday, July 18 (seven days). Golden State had originally signed Turiaf to the offer sheet on Thursday, July 10 and copies of the contract were received by the Lakers the following day.

“We're fortunate to add a player with Ronny's intangibles to our team,” said Mullin. “He's a young, high-energy player who will provide our squad with additional frontcourt depth, rebounding and interior defense. He played a significant role and a lot of crucial minutes on a team that advanced to The NBA Finals last season.”

Turiaf, 25, appeared in 78 games (21 starts) last season with the Lakers, averaging 6.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.38 blocks in 18.7 minutes per contest. In the 35 contests in which he played 20-or-more minutes last season, he averaged 10.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.14 blocks. A native of the French Caribbean island of Martinique, Turiaf ranked fifth in the NBA in blocked shots per 48 minutes played (3.56) and ranked 22nd in the league in blocked shots overall.

A three-year NBA veteran, Turiaf owns career averages of 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.13 blocks and 15.6 minutes in 173 regular-season games with the Lakers. The 6’10” 250-pound graduate of Gonzaga University has shot 50.4% (350-695 FG) from the field and 70.3% (244-347 FT) from the free throw line during his career.

    Turiaf will wear uniform #21.

Whenever people mention a player's "intangibles," it usually means they have no "tangibles."

I think this is a step in the right direction for the GS Warriors. With Baron gone & Maggette gone, I dunno if they're still going to be the full force run n' gun team they were these past few seasons, but I believe it's for the better for the sake of the defense.

Their front line certainly improves with this acquisition, which is where they desperately need improvement. Turiaf can back up Biedrins (if he's still on the team come October), and GS fans can be hopeful that Brandan Wright continues to mature and hopefully stays out of Nelly's doghouse. As well, I think they got two good young players in Randolph & Hendrix in the draft this year.

This team just needs some sorting out on the 1, 2, & 3 positions though. Right now, they have Big Al, Maggette, S-Jax, Monta, Bellinellil, and that's about it considering they're losing/have lost Pietrus, Azuibuike, & Matt Barnes.

I am unaware on whether or not they're keeping CJ Watson, but it's not like he's a viable option to start at point anyways. But neither is Ellis, so they're still in a bit of a jam concerning their PG position. Wonder if they'll pull the trigger on a deal with the Pistons for Billups, but I don't know if it's likely if they have to part with Beans.

It's amazing somebody so tall can't rebound at all. His pitiful 3.5 rebounds/game is hard to grasp. No wonder the Lakers are interested in Landry.

you would think that after losing davis the warriors would want to fill the gaping hole at the 1. instead they sign a wing (maggette) and now big guy?

monta ellis as no real pg skils but it looks as if he will play there for 40mpg.

he's only 6-10, so he's always overmatched as a center, plus he doesn't play that many minutes, he's acutally probably one of the toughest players out there

Rony is a solid swing guy I wish the rox would have signed. He's big enough and quick enough to back up yao for 15 mins and scola for 15 mins and the rox wouldn't have a need for hayes or landry. Of course the rox will keep holding their piece in their hands.

I think that the Lakers made the right decision letting Turiaf go. A player like him can be easily replaced.

almost all of the great rebounders are under 7 feet. at 6'10 he is perfect rebounding size.

I am interested in Golden State's offer to Turiaf. The Lakers do lose a big team player, a rugged post presence, and a fan favorite, so surely they wanted to keep him at a reasonable price. The monetary aspect of the deal could clear up the situation.

Considering you can get both Landry and Hayes for what Turiaf signed for, your idea doesn't hold up. Hayes is a better rebounder and defender and Hayes has more of an offensive game. Next.

Fail? Dwight is listed as 6'11" (nba.com). Taking into account the NBA's tendency to make it's players taller, he may very well be 6'10".

Did you mean to say that Landry has more of an offensive game instead of Hayes?

Landry is 6'9" with short arms and gets about 5reb/g in his first year. Turiaf has 3 years of experience and his career average is still about 3.5 rebounds. Landry plays about the same amount of Minutes.

If we want to look at centers, there is Chuck Hayes who is 6'6" and has even higher rebounding rate. We can go to Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman, etc. All guys shorter than him who have had to rebound against other centers.

That's right. Dwight Howard is another great player at 6'10" that can rebound.

No theory in the world can argue 3.5 rebounds in 18-20 minutes makes Turiaf a great rebounder.
