"Ball hog" Kobe Bryant says without Shaq he would have scored 40, 000 points. Lol probably so, no rings with about 8 scoring titles. Iverson career path sounds about right. Discuss. http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-73723639/
W/O Shaq, Kobe would've probably scored 35k. Definitely would not have won three titles with the lakers and Phil Jackson though.
Of the 2 greatest individual scorers I've seen in my lifetime, MJ and Kobe are #1, #2. So he's probably right. But it doesn't matter. Most points scored is a great accomplishment, but doesn't a career make. Would Karl Malone give up 10,000 points (of his 36,928 - 2nd all time) for 1 ring? I'd guess so... though you never know.
Simple math says Kobe is an idiot. Kobe and Shaq played from '97-'04 together. Kobe averaged 25.0 points per game in that span. To get 9,748 points more in that time span he would have had to average 42.4 points per game, which obviously would have been impossible.
You think Kobe is a better scorer than a prime Shaq? Don't know your age to comment on previous era's, so I will just assume if you saw Kobe play then you saw Shaq play as well. I also think Durant is a better individual scorer. He has a crack at the scoring mark if he stays healthy. LeBron does too depending on how long he wants to play.
I can agree with that. But personally I think Kobe can score in more ways than any of them. That's what makes him so fun to watch, even as an opposing fan.
Keep in mind Kobe has only won one scoring title and took over 200 games longer than Jordan to get to 30k, not to mention Jordan shot 50% to Kobe's 45
I do think Kobe is a better scorer. I'm of Age to have seen and remembered most basketball since the mid to late 80s. Shaquille more efficient, but scoring isn't just about efficiencies. When purely focused on scoring Kobe is ridiculous. That's how he got 81 or had those crazy stretches of 40 plus. Durante can definitely be ridiculous, too though. Potential is there to overtake Kobe. Durants size, inside out game etc isn't natural. He's TMac with much greater efficiency, more of a willingness to go inside and a more ethereal nature to his game.
It depends on what you define as "scorer." I would say Shaq was a more effective and unstoppable scorer. But Kobe has a bigger plethora of moves and ways to score.
