Actually... Looking at how it fell short and the odd rotation shown in the instagram link, they just might have a case.
They have two cases: The ball looks like it was tipped Also, clock didn't start when lee touched it. You can't do that in .3
Unless you can get someone with 0 reaction time, it is so hard for the scorekeeper to start the clock at EXACTLY the time Lee catches that ball. I cant really blame the scorekeeper here. He did the best he could.
clock didnt start right away, ruling is .4 seconds is require to get a shot off, anything under has to be a tip. See the brad Miller ruling. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ij74Ay8RV7c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Wow @ these reactions, how can anyone say that is a tip in?? Do you know the definition? It's not catch it and then throw it up, no matter how quick.
That was a tip up. Not a tip in. If the ball were tossed higher and Lee tipped it above the rim, it'd be good. That's a catch and alley-oop. But, knowing the NBA, they likely won't do anything about this. And also, the Kings should've never allowed an open player underneath the basket. So I think it'll stay a Grizzlies win. I don't get why coaches don't have their 5 players just run circles in the paint to guard the rim when it's 0.3 seconds or less since a tip in is the ONLY possible score.
the film clearly shows the ball was tipped even before lee hit that shot. Also no way in hell that move takes less than .3 seconds....
This is why today's sports suck: official reviews to overturn a play. Mistakes happen, that's a part of life. Get over it.
Hollins tipped the ball but either (a) somehow didn't realize he had tipped it or (b) didn't know that it mattered that he'd tipped it. His immediate reaction was one of defeat rather than objection. I don't think there's any way the NBA will reverse the decision regardless.
There is a screenshot that shows the clock hadn't even started until the ball was out of Lee's hands, that shot took way longer than .3.
Exactly. Ball was tipped (its been very obvious on some cameras) and the clock started too late. Would be a shame if the Grizzlies get that win.
