Are KG and Dirk in the top 20 players of all time?? Both have a ring and MVP. Just curious on what people have them on there all time list.
Both of these players are probably historically underrated. Between them, Garnett probably has the better case to be top 20, but I'm not sure either deserve to be ranked that high. BTW, I think Garnett is a top 5 defensive player all time.
Top 5 defender? Dream Jordan Russell Payton B Wallace Michael Cooper I know I'm missing more Think he cracks top 5?
I don't think neither player is top 20. There are too many great players. wilt jordan magic oscar kareem russell td karl stockton kobe hakeem shaq isaiah robinson west pippen bird Dr. J clyde kidd
Better question, are they top 5 PFs? Obviously Duncan, Malone (as much as I hate him) are better. Then you are debating those two with guys like Chuck, Elvin Hayes, Bob Pettit, Kevin McHale, etc
A lot of great defenders over the years, but I think he should definitely be in the conversation for top 5, at the very least.

I think after the top 10 or so it starts becoming a toss up. I may be way wrong but I think KG was as good a player as Tim duncan
Dirk usually owned KG in their direct matchups. Also, Dirk didn't have a supporting cast like Pierce, Allen and Rondo, and he went up against three of the biggest stars, and still won it all. Dirk over KG.
2002-03 Mavericks 2003-04 Mavericks 2004-05 Mavericks 2005-06 Mavericks 2006-07 Mavericks 2010-11 Mavericks No Pierce or Allen, but those were some really good teams overall. The thing with Dirk, I think he's a great power forward, but it's kind of tough to put him in the top 5 power forwards alone.
What I will say about Dirk, is he toughed it out and got a ring on his own. KG was still very succesful on his own though.
Funny thing is, he said he would have seriously considered joining LBJ and Wade had they approached him. Dirk did have an owner who was willing to spend money and get talent around him. This was something which KG didn't really have in Minnesota (there was one year where they went out and acquired Spree/Sam but outside of that, he didn't have much to work with in Minny).
No way, KG was on an absolute different level defensively. KG was a great man and team defender than in a pinch could cover any player on the court. Dirk on the other hand at best was a mediocre defender.
