It looks like Arizona may release Kolb unless he restructures his contract. He's a good QB when he's actually on the field. It's just he's been having Matt Schaub syndrome since he got to Arizona. Actually I attribute it to the poor o-line (22 sacks in 3 games). Otherwise, he has played real well despite the o-line. I think it would be great to have the former Cougar as a backup.

I think the Texans are happy with Yates as the backup.

never understood the yates love. to me, the limited playing time i've seen him this year, he has regressed.

that said - as a former coog and a proud member of the redvolution - I say hell no to kolb. he's just not good enough.

Waste of cap space with Yates already on the roster for cheap.

    Not a necessary expenditure.

He'll get picked up by the Bills, Jets, or Chiefs.

Possibly even the Eagles, which would be lulzy.

He's made 15 out of 32 possible starts (anybody would be a dead man walking behind that OL) and posted an 80 QB rating, so he'll get another shot at a starting job somewhere.

We already have a backup, and he's not too shabby.

Good enough for back up? Define good enough. He's filled in well when DMcnabb and Vick went down with injuries.

While you're certainly entitled to your opinion I believe he's more than capable to fill in. I've watched him play in college and in the NFL and he certainly has what it takes to do well evidenced by him making a difference in the games he's won. Unfortunately, he's had to battle through tough situations thus far which has led to an uneven career.

He sat on the bench for 3 seasons until Mcnabb was traded. In his first game as the Eagles starter in 2010 he was wrapped up from behind by Clay Matthews who slammed him to the ground head first causing a concussion. Unfortunately the NFL had just implemented strict concussion rules that year and Kolb was not able to come back into the game wherein Vick took over and never looked back eventually winning comeback player of the year. He had a season to remember but in between when Vick was injured Kolb played admirably.

Fast forward to 2011 after the strike infested off-season Kolb was traded 4 weeks prior to the start of opening day and was handed an entirely new offensive gamebook to learn and cram in his head for that amount of time. If you've ever seen how thick an NFL playbook you could only wonder how much of it a QB can learn by osmosis in a short period. With a new team and learning plays, players tendencies, etc after a strike shortened off season it didn't bode well for him leading him to look lost his first year.

2012. Whiz's incompetence as head coach in dealing with the QB situation was clear and evident and is rearing its ugly head once again. He went with Skelton to begin the season only to see him get injured in the first game where Kolb took over leading Arizona to 4 straight wins. After a full offseason of learning the playbook you could tell the game slowed down for him. Kolb did well but alas, he was sacked for an unheard of 22 times in 3 games due to the lack of o-line protection. A QB can only take so much of a beating. He finally was injured on a broken running play resulting in two 300 lb linemen landing on Kolb separating his ribs from his sternum. He had 8 TD to 3 int ratio with a respectable 86.1 QB rating.

I think he's been put in tough spots throughout his career but would like to see him play out one full season with a good o-line and the Texans present a good opportunity. If the Texans are bent on keeping Yates as their backup then yeah, it doesn't make sense to have both of them. But with Schaub's history you never know...

Proud Cougar, love Kolb...probably a bad waste of resources here. Although we could stockpile all the ex-coog QB's...Ware is already in the booth, what are the Bros. Klingler up to? Danny Davis?

    A bit of an overreaction.

Kolb was pretty decent when he was healthy this year. IMO he'd be a fine backup, but it's not going to happen with Yates here. Not that Yates is much better (if at all), but he's already here and Kubes probably doesn't want to keep 3 QBs on roster when Schaub is healthy. We did when Yates was a rookie because he was 3rd string and we'd spent a draft pick on him. But now that he's the #2, the Texans aren't going to use another roster spot on a QB.

Saying Yates won a playoff game is like saying Kolb beat the Patriots. Both are technically true but neither QB was the reason for the victory.

In an Ideal world we'd have Keenum starting and Kolb as backup...and win the superbowl.
