Kevin Duckworth, a two-time NBA All-Star who spent the majority of his 12 NBA seasons as the Portland Trail Blazers' center, has died. He was 44.

Duckworth died Monday in Kernville, Ore., near the coastal town of Lincoln City. His death was confirmed by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. Duckworth was in town as part of a Trail Blazers group hosting a free kids basketball clinic, Fox 12 reported on its Web site.

The cause of his death was not released Tuesday morning.

The 7-foot Duckworth started at center when the Trail Blazers won Western Conference titles in 1990 and '92. He played in the NBA All-Star Game in 1989 and '91 and was named the NBA's Most Improved Player.

Duckworth's last season in the league, 1996-97, was spent with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played his college basketball at Eastern Illinois.

I actually remember this guy (sometimes that's not the case). I wonder what he died of. That's scary that he's so young. (yes 44 is young... I plan to live past it)

    Very sad.

He was pretty fat as an NBA player so it would not surprise me if it was a heart attack.

Man this is terrible news! My fondest memories of him were back in 92 when I was hoping the the trailblazers beat the bulls. Sad news and he was still pretty young!

wow that sucks, he just reminded me how good the Blazers were in the early 90's

    Duckworth/Uncle Cliffy/Porter/Drexler/Buck Williams/Jerome Kersey

I'm surprised he was out of the legaue before he was 35.

    RIP

whoa I did not see this coming. I know he got really big after his playing days but 44? crap thats not old at all. I heard he was really big in the portland community helping out kids and all. Its a shame I used to always like to watch him play with his unorthodox shot. I remember when he was on the clippers at the end of his career he was already getting big then but still played decently in limited minutes.

he made a couple of all star apparences, and remember this is the hakeem/drob days. he was a very good passer, a solid player, who got up and down fairly well for his size.

that was just a good solid fundamental team. rick adelman is a helluva coach, he probably got the absolute best out of every player on that team.

He seemed like a great guy. He was really big, so I'm guesing that had something to do with it.

Yea they were a great team with coach Adelman leading them, if it wasn't for the bad boys in '89-'90, and Micheal and company in '91-'92, Kevin would have gotten a ring.

Very sad to hear. RIP Kevin
