"Boston Celtics centre Kendrick Perkins is a long-term project to play for the Tall Blacks. New Zealand assistant coach Dillon Boucher said the NBA star was on their radar as a prospective member of the national squad, although not for the upcoming world championships in Turkey. Perkins' estranged father Kenny Perkins lives in Christchurch and was a veteran of the New Zealand National Basketball League in the 1980s and 90s. Interesting. New Zealand actually plays a pretty good brand of basketball. They are competitive with Australia in the Oceania region of FIBA. This is somewhat similar to Chris Kaman playing for Germany.
Ya you are right. All the NZ sports teams (at least mens) derived their names from the rugby team, All blacks. Presuming that all BBall players are relatively taller, thus tall blacks. Black is just the colour of the sports jerserys worn
Their teams are named after the colors of their jerseys. "Tall Blacks" is probably a play on "All Blacks", the name of the rugby team, which is far and away the most important national team. New Zealand doesn't mess around when it comes to rugby.
That would be crazy if it went through. Don't see it happening, though. Also, that team name is HIGHLY suggestive.
Lol. Good for us if it happens, but no biggie if it doesn't. Let's be honest, NZ basketball is a bit of a joke at the moment.
Not to the rest of the world that knows it. The All Blacks are the equivalent to Brazilian soccer. They are world famous and rugby is the national sport of NZ. Be like saying that the Cleveland Indians is highly suggestive.
