Houstonprofootball.com is reporting that the Jags are about to release Keenan, and the Texans are hoping to scoop him up. mix him in with Gaffney, Lewis and Bradford, and that's not a bad little receiving group. particularly for an expansion team. 99 days and counting....tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock ,tick, tock, tick, tock
Texans Targeting Keenan? May 31: With June 1 cuts looming, the Texans are ready to pounce. According to CNN/SI's Peter King, the Jaguars are set to release WR Keenan McCardell (6'1", 195), and the Texans are expected to make a "big push" for the veteran wideout. The Browns are also supposedly interested. McCardell, who played for Texan offensive coordinator Chris Palmer from 1997-98 and was originally drafted by Texan GM Charley Casserly, is one of the NFL's most reliable receivers, averaging 94 receptions and 1,159 yards the past two seasons. Since becoming a full-time starter in 1996, McCardell's caught 449 passes for 6,393 yards and 30 touchdowns, and was a Pro Bowler in 1996 (the Jagaurs' first-ever starter). Last year, he led the league with 32 receptions on third down. McCardell, who still maintains a residence in Sugarland, was a standout prep star at Houston's Waltrip High School before setting numerous records at UNLV. Catching up with injuries, WR Jermaine Lewis is expected back Monday after testing his injured hamstring earlier this week. The receiver told the Chronicle he's at about 85% health right now. And rookie fullback Jarrod Baxter, who should push for a starting spot, also tested his injured hamstring this week and, like Lewis, is expected back Monday.
All I've heard here is that McCardell and the Bucs is nearly a done deal. It'll be interesting to see what other teams enter the fray.
Wow. I heard McCardell and the wide-receiver-starved Falcons had a deal in place... It'll be interesting to see where he ends up.
