It's truly sad that she died, but I always find it odd when the reporters themselves become part of the news story. I saw this as the main headline on the ESPN website, and I didn't understand how this was relevant to any sports discussion.

Why is an 87yr old still driving? If the extremely elderly person didn't kill somebody in a head on collision they would have ran the stop posts at a shopping center or convenient store killing pedestrians inside.

I don't know all the details, but it sounds like she slammed into the back of the 87yo driver. I don't know who was at fault, but I'm not going to assume it was the 87yo. Both drivers were killed.

Sorry to hear this. My condolences to Chris Berman, family, friends, and fans. Fault aside...87 years old is too old to be driving no matter what (well...maybe rural areas would be okay). I've been rear-ended by someone around that age. They have reduced faculties and forget how to drive properly with poor reaction times. And, dick**** shouldn't have been driving because he had no insurance. His excuse for rear-ending me and then kept pushing the gas pedal even after that for too long..."I thought you were going". He actually hit me twice...like once wasn't enough. Then, he knowingly tried to pass off an insurance printout as valid when it was clearly fake...which I knew and soon found out with a phone call. Gee...thanks. Lost money on that one.

Very sad news. Many of us, I suspect, have lost close friends and family members to the scourge of auto accidents. We definitely take the bad with the good when it comes to our highly mobile auto-centric society. The Berman family has my sympathy during this difficult time.
