he'll go to jail after retirement from the nba. the once free, runs for the turkish presidency and become a national hero. then the country burns down in flames because kanter doesn't know anything about running a country.

    Regarding your first point..

Enes Kanter sagged off of JR Smith, because JR Smith would blow right past him to the basket...and JR jacking up a jumper would be the lower percentage shot. JR Smith isn't Trevor Ariza...he's very capable of handling a basketball and taking it to the rim.

Is Kanter really that important to be killed on sight?

No but it probably just takes a couple grand to order a hit on him.

This makes no sense to me. I’m not an expert on international espionage but the idea he is safer in NYC from Turkish agents than he would be in london makes no sense.

Good idea. We have a lot of turks in the last two years who come here illegally. Profesors, doctors, journalists, civil servants. They try not to ask for asylum if they arent caught because the turkish undercover agents abduct them. Same thing is happening much more in germany.

Yeah though they will probably kidnap him. He is one of the most famous figures who goes and publicly condemns Erdogan. Okc had offered him security and even to go to canada he had to get assurances he would be safe.

OK, I need to know where Mehmet Okur and Omer Asik stand on this Kanter vs. Hedo/Erdogan feud.

Well, Turkish agents wouldn't dare touching Kanter on US soil. Angering the US government is complete self-destruction, angering the British government is more of a minor nuisance. Kanter is probably too high-profile of a figure to be messed with, but would you take the risk for a regular season game with a 1% chance of losing your life?

Jokes aside it is a good reminder how important political freedom is.

A few thousand convictions for this offense in Turkey, it's not really funny when you think of normal folk just getting jailed because they have an insecure president with totalitarian laws.

Imagine how many people would be in trouble in the west for having bad things to say about their political leaders? :O

The amount of vitriol said for Obama and Trump over the last 10 years is quite sad in certain ways.

The same people insulting our political leaders have zero concept of life outside of the US or in other political systems in general.

There’s a reason why Trump can threaten to throw out all immigrants but still have loads of Eastern Europe supporters.

You're sort of derailing this thread, but the people who criticize political leaders do so because they see the risks of becoming what some European nations are and were. Part of what scares me about the president's campaign of ignorance has been that he echoes statements that we heard during the eugenics movement, the nazi movement, and his desire to vilify the press is the first play in every dictators play book. People who criticize the government don't do so out of ignorance to tyranny, but rather appreciation that tyrrany arises from a slippery slope of minor actions.
