[Journalism in 2017] "A person familiar with his thinking"

Why does Trump get two scoops. But the important question is, why is this important to you?

There are any much more important news items about Trump that you should be interested in, and should comment on. Like... why did he meet with Russians a day after firing Comey (including one known spy, that wasn't listed on his meeting list), and why media wasn't allowed (but Russian media was), and why did he divulge sensitive intel, and why did he also say he fired his "nut job" FBI Director that would make things easier for him on Russia?

That story *is* important... so what are your thoughts on that? Or do you only care about ice cream scoops?

 

CNN has lost all credibility. They've turned into an extreme left wing propaganda machine.

The left has extremely little power in government (House, Senate, POTUS, soon to be SCOTUS), but they have control of much of the media, and they're using every ounce of power they have there. Anonymous sources, anonymous phone calls, people "familiar with others' thinking"....now are all legitimate sources for them. They're playing on human psychology - they float an unconfirmed story, it becomes peoples' first impression - which is very difficult to change later - and then they move on from the story to the next outrage du jour. Then you are able to control the messaging, keep eyeballs on your channel, and "confirm" the narrative the left desires to be true. This is what is happening in American politics today.

 

Well telling lies which are easy to disproove made Trump president... So maybe it is a good strategy......:-S

seems like every story is anonymously sourced now, so we have to rely solely on the credibility of the journalist, which no longer exists

if the source is an Obama holdover, that should be disclosed, but it never is

the best is "a source familiar with PERSON X's thinking says..."

if it isn't verifiable, if someone isn't willing to put their name to it, it's not worth even considering

Comon people. Do you seriously think CNN will create false sources over easily verifiable claims?

 

This is not new. Stop pretending that it is. Most stories actually have multiple anonymous sources. This is not a single bad apple with an axe to grind.

Furthermore if the sources were named, I guarantee you that the pro Trump media outlets would start baseless character assassination. It is what Breitbart News et al do.

And don't think for a minute that the Trump administration is not above leaking stories to the press via anonymous sources, in hopes of shaping the story in their favor.

 

So what are all of your non biased news sources for the unenlightened who dont understand the nuances of how media and journalism operate?

Diversionary question. The point is to rely on facts and not jump to conclusions based on sensationalistic "stories" backed up by weak facts from biased media outlets. I can't name a truly unbiased media source.

A source familiar with the thinking inside CNN told one of my journalists today that CNN will do whatever it takes to bring down Trump including lie to their viewers daily. The source wishes to remain "anonymous".

Once upon a time journalism had integrity and they could protect their sources.

but then came faux news from fox and friends like breitbart and infowars.

now journalism has no more credibility, there for journalists should stop protecting their sources so that the alt-right can go after those sources with a vengeance

Hopefully you are honest enough with yourself to see that's not how it works since news organizations independently verify each other's stories. Do you trust the non-profit Associate Press?
