But he is only 6-33 in his last eight games with 0 walks and an OPS around .575 and 0 multi-hit games.
You read the first line, then stop reading? Said the HR could equal his re-heating in the portion you deleted.
Have to say since my last post, Trout has really been killing it. If he keeps this up all month and Altuve is somewhat subpar compared to what he was all season, I wouldn't be surprised if they awarded Trout the MVP. I'm not sure how much team wins are valued in the MVP race.
Oh, all kinds of kooky **** gets kicked around - team wins, for sure. I'm guessing Trout (and Donaldson) will be penalized for having won an MVP recently, too. As will the idea that Trout is a perennial contender so let's give the other guys a chance, which favors a player like Altuve. It's rarely *just* about individual performance on the field.
**UPDATE** Last night Jose Altuve got his 1185th career hit. He is on pace to finish his 7th MLB season with 1,274 career hits. I did some research with the help of baseball-reference.com to compile every 3000 hit club member's stats through each of their first 7 seasons. Now some players, including Altuve, didn't play an entire season when they first entered the MLB and in the late 1800's/early 1900's seasons didn't have as many games, so I took into account how many games and ABs each player had. Below are the numbers, filtered by hits: Ichiro Suzuki - 1592 hits, 1118 games, 4774 ABs, .333 BA Paul Waner - 1452 hits, 1051 games, 4135 ABs, .351 BA Wade Boggs - 1392 hits, 1027 games, 3913 ABs, .356 BA Albert Pujols (currently at 2911 hits) - 1344 hits, 1091 games, 4054 ABs, .332 BA Pete Rose - 1327 hits, 1064 games, 4301 ABs, .309 BA Hank Aaron - 1309 hits, 1039 games, 4114 ABs, .318 BA Stan Musial - 1225 hits, 915 games, 3521 ABs, .348 BA Miguel Cabrera (currently at 2601 hits) - 1220 hits, 1040, games, 3921 ABs, .311 BA Ty Cobb - 1207 hits, 881 games, 3364 ABs, .359 BA Honus Wagner - 1206 hits, 901 games, 3527 ABs, .342 BA Carl Yastrzemski - 1201 hits, 1064 games, 4033 ABs, .298 BA Derek Jeter - 1199 hits, 936 games, 3744 ABs, .320 BA [*]Jose Altuve - 1185 hits, 926 games, 3743 ABs, .317 BA Eddie Murray - 1175 hits, 1044 games, 3958 ABs, .297 BA Tony Gwynn - 1151 hits, 902 games, 3474 ABs, .331 BA Willie Mays - 1111 hits, 914 games, 3499 ABs, .318 BA Nap Lajoie - 1086 hits, 710 games, 2987 ABs, .364 BA Cal Ripken - 1084 hits, 992 games, 3834 ABs, .283 BA George Brett - 1082 hits, 885 games, 3495 ABs, .310 BA Roberto Clemente - 1062 hits, 917 games, 3561 ABs, .298 BA Robin Yount - 1050 hits, 988 games, 3835 ABs, .274 BA Rod Carew - 1048 hits, 876 games, 3316 ABs, .316 BA Al Kaline - 1047 hits, 904 games, 3368 ABs, .311 BA Lou Brock - 1027 hits, 900 games, 3589 ABs, .286 BA Ricky Henderson - 1022 hits, 934 games, 3463 ABs, .295 BA Dave Winfield - 980 hits, 955 games, 3439 ABs, .285 BA Rafael Palmeiro - 968 hits, 886 games, 3270 ABs, .296 BA Alex Rodriguez - 966 hits, 790 games, 3126 ABs, .309 BA Tris Speaker - 958 hits, 757 games, 2817 ABs, .340 BA Adrian Beltre (currently at 2993 hits) - 949 hits, 966 games, 3462 ABs, .274 BA Craig Biggio - 938 hits, 914 games, 3327 ABs, .282 BA Paul Molitor - 909 hits, 765 games, 3126 ABs, .291 BA Eddie Collins - 856 hits, 713 games, 2556 ABs, .335 BA Cap Anson - 619 hits, 372 games, 1741 ABs, .356 BA
It's crazy to think that this is how far we've come...but Derek Jeter is probably the guy Jose should have in his crosshairs now. Both entered baseball at age 21, and through their age 27 seasons so far (acknowledging that Jose has 60 someodd games left to play): Jeter: 936 games, 3744 AB's, 0.320/0.392/0.470 splits for a 0.862 OPS and 122 OPS+. 1199 hits 99HR 488 RBI 715 R and 135 SB Altuve: 926 games, 3743 AB's, 0.317/0.362/0.451 splits for a 0.813 OPS and 125 OPS+. 1185 hits 75HR 381 RBI 521 R and 220 SB Altuve's era thus far has been more pitcher favorable while Jeter came up in the height of the roids era, so Altuve wins on OPS+. He may never have the walk or slugging numbers of Jeter, but taking aim at Jeter's hits total seems certainly feasible! On pace to be a no doubt Hall of Famer, let's keep our fingers crossed that he stays healthy and an Astro.

Borrowing it from Julia, the mother of stats. But the astros have five 200 hits seasons, one of them is by the biggio guy. Four of them are by Tuve.
So ran some really quick search. Since 1911, they were 35 players who got to 1200 hits by the end of their 7th year. Of those players, only seven reached 3,000 hits. A number of others got close in the 2900-3000 range and a few others will probably get there soon. Let me know if I missed anyone: Spoiler Ty Cobb* George Sisler Earle Combs Al Simmons Babe Herman Paul Waner* Lloyd Waner Chuck Klein Earl Averill Wally Berger Ben Chapman Joe Medwick Arky Vaughan Joe DiMaggio Johnny Mize Tommy Holmes Barney McCosky Johnny Pesky Jackie Robinson Richie Ashburn Hank Aaron* Frank Robinson Orlando Cepeda Carl Yastrzemski* Pete Rose* Glenn Beckert Wade Boggs* Kirby Puckett Juan Pierre Albert Pujols Ichiro Suzuki* Miguel Cabrera Matt Holliday Robinson Cano Jose Altuve
Some teams just have a tradition of incredible players for one position... Can any other franchise beat the secondbaseman legacy of Joe Morgan-Billy Doran-Craig Biggio-Kaz Matsui (KIDDING)-Jose Altuve?
Ah yes... that's who I was forgetting. The other hero from the Backe game. A nice MVP before he got there as well.
If we only drafted Derek Jeter (despite his overrated defense)... 4-5 years of Caminiti-Jeter-Biggio-Bagwell would have owned the National League.
Caminiti was traded before Derek Jeter made his MLB debut, so that still may not have happened (I realize not having Nevin would have decreased the likelyhood of the trade). Maybe we wouldn't have kept Biggio or Bagwell.
