This is my first post, I'm relatively new to Clutchfans and I love everything on the site. Love the activeness on the forums and the people on here. With that being said, I wanted to say that I really like Jordan Hill as a part of the future here in Houston. His rebounds/36 minutes shocked me in comparison to some of the "elite" rebounders around the league. Defensively, I believe he can really develop into one of the better post defenders with a mixture of his strength and seemingly willingness to improve his game. Offensively, He can obviously improve and with his willingness to improve, and Kevin McHale to aid him, I can easily image better post play from him. As far as having that feel of where to be and when to be there on both sides of the ball, that comes in time with minutes on the court. I would be pretty upset if Jordan wasn't in Red come the 16th and I'd like to know what everbody else sees in him.
we've really been struggling with rebounding since hill has been out. i hope he comes back soon (if he isn't traded).
If Patterson gets traded and we get a real center, I think that Jordan Hill will prove to be quite serviceable as a backup PF.
give it time.... lol seriously, I didnt give JHill much worth till we've struggled of late without him...
Who knew his impact was that great - he sure didn't get much love from CF while he was playing. I see a diamond in the rough and with a full training camp under McHale, he may be more valuable as an asset.
I've not been the biggest Jordan Hill fan this season, but there were some good points made in this thread about him. We have been struggling since his injury, particularly in the area of his strength, rebounding. And lack of rebounding is one of the top reasons for our losing streak. He's also shown strong signs of potential on help side defense this year. His post up game was developing this season, but I don't think he'll ever be considered a go-to offensive player. He just doesn't seem quite bright enough to pick up on offensive schemes. That said, before he went out with an injury I would have been happy to see him traded and could have gone either way with his extension, or lack there-of. However, now I'm beginning to think that he should have been extended and that he would look like a very strong backup PF. That said, we should have Motiejunas coming in to fill that rebounding void that we'll have if Hill never comes back. And because of that, I don't see Hill fitting into the Rockets' future plans unless Motie's rights are traded. Any way, I was originally a fan of Hill's when he got here, then was turned off with his lack of progress, and now I am opening my eyes again to what he's provided this team. I hope he does well no matter where he ends up next season.
Jordan Hill is like that old saying, "You never know what you have until it's gone." Boy, do I miss his rebounding.
In 2 years when he's putting up 10/10 in limited minutes, we'll learn to miss him. Something about him just wouldn't allow me to trade him if I were the Rockets gm
his rebounds per 36 may be good, but how many of those 36 minutes are consecutive? They dont play him.
To quote Bill Worrell "Jordan Hill is a big tease." He gives you nights sometimes where he just blows you away, and is incredibly active on the boards. Then there are nights, most nights, when he looks completely out of the game mentally. I think he is the one player that the front office really thought long and hard about extending, but ultimately said, if anyone is willing to pay more than the salary he was due next year, he's not worth it... let him walk. I completely agree with that. If your going to spend the lower mid level on a player you need more consistency for a specialist. Which is what Jordan is. That being said, I wouldn't completely rule him out of being a Rocket again next year. Nowhere else will he be able to get the kind of opportunity that he has here in Houston. I wouldn't be surprised if they re-sign him if they strike out in trades and free agency this summer, and he is back on a small non-guaranteed contract.
Some coach and GM will think they can get something out of him that no one else could and he'll get signed. Most likely by a contending team looking for bench help.
Doubtful a contending team would give him anything more than the Rockets would, and even if they did offer him a contract why would he choose them over the Rockets?... He's already living here, knows the staff, assumingly likes it here, knows he has a shot at PT. The only way Jordan Hill leaves is if its for more money. Contending teams dont have that, or are willing to shell that money out for Jordan Hill when there are Eric Dampier's and Juwan Howards out there.
Very impressive per 36 numbers. He's no Enes Kanter or Reggie Evans, but very impressive. It doesn't seem to me he has a willingness or ability to improve his game. He's been putting up the same numbers for 3 years. Remember, Jordan started 7 games this year, and the Rockets were 2-5. After doesn't mean because of.
I think Hill is underrated 'round these parts. He's not very good defender, especially at center (not strong enough), but the rest of his game is very useful. He can knock down that little elbow jumper, he crashes the boards, gets putbacks, even has a mini-post game. I don't think it's a coincidence that our rebounding suddenly started to suck after he went down, and I think his absence has contributed to our losing streak.
I disagree, his rebounding is up, his efficiency is up, his fouls are down. He's not going to suddenly become an all star but he has made some improvement. I think he'll be a solid bench player in the NBA for a long time. May never be good enough to start but he should wind up getting 20 minutes per game in his prime.
