good luck to Toronto getting an asset back for him without taking back any salary. Maybe the Suns will be interested or BKN for a 2nd rounder?
I'm not high on Vala but i think they will eventually get something decent back. They waited too much time to trade him though, should have done this a couple of years ago imo.
Such a C overload these days, I doubt they get much back. Jonas is a decent starter, but not many teams have a need for a new C. Raptors could use a stretch 4 now. Anderson for Jonas anyone? Salaries match. We can then flip Valenciunas in a trade for Melo.
He's not nearly a star bad as everyone seems to be making out. He gives you 12 and almost 10 board in just 26 minutes per night. Not great defensively but in another world (like 10 years ago or 5 years ago) this eras numbers would be fantastic. And he's not grossly overpaid at $15 - $18 million per. Frankly if the Rockets found a way to get Melo via buyout I wouldn't think it absolutely crazy to trade Ryno for him - assuming you couldn't resign Nene. Rockets need size and rebounding. This guy gives you that. Of course he'd be off the bench for us too though. And it wouldn't be option 1,2 or 3 and isn't happening. Lol
He's a solid post player and great rebounder, but such a huge defensive liability. Big centers are having a tough time in the NBA today. There are so few post players for them to guard. Every team is running pick and roll and other bigs are shooting threes now. And the crazy thing is he isn't even that slow, the game is just so fast. He would have been awesome ten years ago.
If Toronto wants to move JV and add a PF with shooting... 3 team trade with Houston. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y88s9rql Raptors get shooting. (Another player to disappear during the playoffs - lol what?). Lance is a nice piece to fill out a bench. They'll get a pick or so. Knicks get JV who is still young enough to pair with Porzingis. Joesph is a nice PG and some nice NGs to create a TPE. Maybe some 2nds. Rockets get Melo. Member #2 of the banana boat.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/...-valanciunas-working-three-point-shot/sn-amp/ Preparing to join Dan Tony?
Seems like Valanciunas had a lot of promise at one point but it's passed him by. Hard to believe he's only 25.
Maybe it's a matter of players with his skill set becoming obsolete in an age where teams realize post-ups and midrange shots are not nearly as efficient as pick-and-roll and 3 pointers. But I think he has a chance to be effective even now if he manages to become a respectable 3 point shooter like Marc Gasol, DeMarcus Cousins and Brook Lopez did. He is a good enough FT and midrange shooter so he has the skills to make it work.
They've been trying to trade him for a couple years now. Ujiri has regretted that contract extension almost from the time the ink was dry. Jonas is mediocre at everything. Doesn't help them defensively, which is crucial. And he's got a player option on the 19-20 season, which, barring a major change in style of play and talent, he should probably take. Because if he were a free agent this summer he'd have a very difficult time getting the MLE from any team. So, basically he's a bad, boat anchor contract that is virtually untradeable without Ujiri attaching a first round pick or other asset to him. Don't know which contract is worse, Jonas or Ryan Anderson. I'd probably lean toward Jonas actually being worse. He's owed roughly $12 million less than Anderson over the next three years but he's a mediocre to poor defender at the most important defensive position on the court and He has no other outstanding skills to make up for it. At least Anderson can hammer the three on the road. Wonder how the Knicks view Jonas and Ryan Anderson? I suppose it depends in how they view Kristaps. They should view Kristaps as a 5 in my opinion, which witted make Ryan Anderson more valuable to then that JV. But you never know about these front office people. They might actually be more interested in JV at the 5 and KP at the 4. We can cross our fingers and hope that's the case and hope the Raptors value Anderson over JV (which they should). That could be the excuse we need to pick up a player like Nogueira to add to our roster along with Melo. Nogueira could represent a potential partial fix to our interior defense issue. And perhaps Nene with the Brazilian connection could help Nogueira mature into a real defensive stopper. I'd like that.
A large reason why the post up isn't as efficient now is because they don't call fouls down in the blocks as much. If they allowed hand checks, pnr and threes wouldn't be as effective. They don't call all these moving screens when gsw plays which makes these shots more 'efficient'.
Capela, Black, and Nene. Where is he going to get PT? As of now Ryno's skill set has a lot more value to us as a team.
