Jon Stewart dissapointed in Obama calls his Health Plan a clusterf**k

Cannot wait to read this issue. Stewart/Colbert= Genius.

 

You obviously don't watch, Stewart has criticized Obama very nearly from the start.

This is what happens when you let a biased media outlet tell you that everyone ELSE is too biased to listen to.

To describe it succinctly, Stewart leans liberal/left, but he's not a blind liberal. Even so, the left is DEFINITELY not immune to his satire if they set themselves up for it (e.g. Weiner, Obama being a p***y, etc.). It really is an entertaining show and not really biased, focused mostly on the satire. You should try watching it for a few weeks or watch a few archived episodes on their website.

 

For me, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are my only conformation of my sanity in an insane world.

But as an observer and social critic, you afford luxuries of ideological purity that are unworkable in the real world of trying to get things done; because in the real world, most other people are self interested, misinformed, hypocritical, and short sighted. And even actions perceived to be of a ideologically consistent have unintended consequences and have loopholes to be exploited.

If the president was a dictator I would expect ideological purity.

 

This. Jon Stewart is a very smart man, and he isn't afraid to speak his mind. His show is generally comedy gold. The guy also has very good opinions when he is being serious.

No offense, but this is generally what people say when the have zero interest of doing so. "Oh, I just never got a chance!" Bulls**t. You can find 30 minutes a day to watch a TV program.

I'd vote for Jon Stewart for President.

 

Actually, I beg to differ. I feel Stewart has a specific stance which I've seen throughout the years I've watched him. From the perspective of "conservatives" and "fair and balanced news network" it would be considered extremely liberal. From my own view, his stance would lean towards "common sense".

Stewart usually engages the democrats not because they're too far left, but because they don't do jack squat and can't agree on anything even with majorities in congress and sitting president. So in a way, he generally gets pissed off at democrats for not being democrats.

Colbert, OTOH, is simply an entertainer. You can easily tell from his interviews. Stewart always shut up or be serious when the person he speaks to has something pertinent to say. Colbert always cuts in when his interview is about to take a stance on something to butt in with his fake conservative stance. Colbert is indeed a caricature. But Stewart has a very pointed view and one he really believes in.

 

I don't think the combination of his demographics, profession, education and background allow him to be anything but squarely liberal on all social, fiscal and international issues. But he's a good enough entertainer on a popular enough show that he's not going to avoid attacking or satirizing liberals for fear of losing his appeal.

 

Like taking the time to learn the difference between "then" and "than"?

I love Jon Stewart..love the Daily Show..and typically lean left in politics.

But never apologize for not watching more television. :grin:

 

Stewart sort of jumps back and forth from "hey I'm just a comedian makin' dick jokes over here" to "very serious person" quite a bit, not that he's not hilarious & brilliant when he's on but it can be a bit much. He's very serious about his media criticism which is fine but it's hard for him to be entirely above the fray. The thing I hate the most though is how (with a few exceptions, namely O'Reilly) he tends to tone it down too much for his interviews; also his interviews with comedians are cringeworthy since he throws in too many exaggerated laughs, which i supposed comes from being a fellow stand-up guy.

Colbert on the other hand has basically been playing the same satirical hand in utterly ridiculously brilliant fashion for almost a decade now, it's remarkable, yet he finds a way to make his points without breaking character and ends up making them in a much subtler way than Stewart despite his completely ridiculous persona. I love them both but I think what Colbert does is more difficult.
