Yeah because it's solely on Lucas, come on. You can't fix a person with his issues in half a season. Who knows, maybe he actually did great work with Lawson and we just don't know what went on. Lawson just flat out stunk up the joint, that's on him.
Same with Jamarcus Russel, Leon Smith, etc etc....Lucas cleaned up his own life which is admirable. I just don't happen to think he is much to write home about from a player development standpoint. I realize he is a respected figure in the Houston basketball scene, but I don't see the fruits of him being much of a coach. Anyone who has ever been in the same gym as John, he claims as an "alum" of his program. He's basically an adult extension of AAU basketball and helps players get seen. I'm not sure how much he is going to help pro player development. Player development is actually an area where the Rockets have been very strong over the last 20 years. They have taken a number of 2nd round picks and un-drafted guys and turned them into NBA players.
Why does everyone think this is great news? Is there some kind of evidence that John Lucas is helpful in anyway? The most recent evidence - Ty Lawson - would imply this is horrible news.
Like him or not, D'Antoni is going to have a better staff than McHale did. I can feel us turning the corner real soon.
