ARLINGTON, Texas – Rams right tackle Jason Smith, a Dallas native, left the Cowboys Stadium field on a backboard late in the first quarter Sunday.

Smith, the second overall pick in the 2009 draft, was injured when he dove for a fumble. The top of his helmet crashed into Cowboys safety Abram Elam’s hip. He will not return to the game.

Smith, who attended W.T. White High and Baylor, was down on the field for several minutes being attended to by medical personnel. His facemask was removed from his helmet before he was strapped onto a backboard, which is usually indicative of a neck injury.

Smith had slight movement in his left hand while he was being carted off the field.
