To say TS% doesn't matter in the playoffs is silly IMO. If you have a high TS%, it means you are scoring efficiently no matter the circumstance. It's kind of a bottom line stat.
Like all other stats it needs some context, but I prefer to use it over FG/3p% and wish it was in the box score.
im sorry but I cant put much stock into a stat that is trying to tell me Tyson Chandler is a better offensive player than Shaq...
Obviously TS% must be viewed along with PPG. TS% is only helpful in determining how efficient a players PPG is achieved. A high TS% with a PPG of like 8 just means that the particular player knows his role and is playing well.
Yeah, it doesn't necessarily mean player A is a better offensive player than player B. It's just saying whenever they get touches, how efficiently do they score. Player A may just be a role guy who capitalizes on easy buckets, but player B may have a much greater USG% in the offense, so for them to put up a similar TS%, I do think that is indicative of how good of an offensive player one guy can be. Basically, I think if you take into account a player's USG% and TS%, you can pretty accurately determine the offensive capability of a player. I think this is what is impressive with Harden; he increased his USG% in Houston but still has a high TS%. And now, I think you could argue he's a top 5 offensive player in the league easily.
