It's huge that Morey stuck to his guns to get a minimum deal, when Ennis was coming off a 2yr Room Exception deal, making twice as much. I assume Harden and Paul called him, too, like they did Luc last year. Are we prevented from signing both, for some reason? Ennis took a minimum deal, so we have more of those to give out, rigth?
This is really a perfect situation for him. Rotation minutes, in the national spotlight, plenty of good open looks. He's gonna bust his ass because a big payday will be waiting on the other side if this year goes well for him.
Ben dubose practically works for the Rockets so take him with a grain of salt. He absolutely buried Melo after he signed with the Thunder saying we dodged a bullet but now he's all about him. I like Ben and his pod ast but he is not really subjective.
Maybe this will end all of this "end of the world" gloom and doom and in same cases whining after Trevor and Luc left. I would consider Ennis and Melo a major upgrade so hopefully Melo is watching.
People said the same thing about our signing last year. Then they leave and people act like Michael Jordan left.
$1.6 mil 1st year, $1.8 mil 2nd year option. That's still under the $4.3 Mbah got from the Clippers If we sign Melo for the exception of around $5 mill then the Rockets saved themselves roughly $12.7 mill for 2018-19 (since Ariza left for $15 mil)
I am guessing that there are not enough roster spots for two identical players (6'7" SFs of the 3 and D type). I am also guessing the plan is to add Melo which takes up another forward spot. And they need a PG to spell CP3. But sure, if they add Nunnally with the idea of having him play in Rio Valley, waiting to replace Anderson... I am all in.
I never wanted Melo last summer to begin with. But that's when he would've been our starting 4 heading into the season as Ryno would've been swapped for him. Now we have that position filled by Tucker, we just picked up a defensive wing in Ennis, and we found a steal in Green for instant offense off the bench last season and resigned him. Things are very different now vs last offseason. Melo still has some major question marks, but we don't need All-Star Melo in order to win a title. We just need a guy who will accept a reduced role, not dominate the ball, and make open jumpers which he'll get a lot of with Harden and CP3 facilitating.
I still wanted Luc. Guy played some of the soundest defense I've seen on the Rockets. Hardly gambled and played smart. The anti Brewer.
Melo has never ever shown this ability. Dude is as stubborn as it gets. Every Thunder line up with him did worse.
If he plays good perimeter defense and makes us forget about Luc, then I am giving him the nickname P-Ennis (perimeter Ennis)
