I have to laugh because he's making $5+ million/year for the next 4 years from Detroit. Of course it's not that funny when you consider the Rockets are still paying Matt Maloney's contract off.
Because he's not very good at basketball anymore, and 4th string PF isn't that great of a need. I mean sure Beasley getting traded means we have no 4th string PF now....but who cares?
I just wanna point out I knew we weren't taking him back. Nor do I think we should (although I hope some team does). Lives in the GARM due to the memories of Game 6 against the Clips - and lobs to Dwight against the Mavs.
I don't know if failing to estimate a player's age by two years merits a "Damn" but alright. If I tried to guess the ages of all the players in the league I'd probably be off by two years on average. For Rockets present and recent past I'd probably be closer to a year off on average. If you thought someone was 28 and found out he was 30 and thought "Damn," either you get excited over everything as in "Damn, it's morning" or "Damn, you got new shoes" or you lead a very mundane life. Smoove was instrumental to one of our greatest playoff performances since Olajuwon's years! In my eyes Smoove is GARM material.
There's no point in having Smith as long as D-Mo is on the team. That said, I wouldn't be against giving him a shot should the D-Mo situation go to hell and he flees to Europe or something. Smoove has made his money, so I imagine even if he's not on a roster at the start of the season he won't be bothered - whichever playoff team that has a major injury at PF will certainly scoop him up by January.
I never liked him here in the - greenlight on 3's - offense. But if you put him in the high post in the MDA offense every now and then and get players cutting around him, I think he can provide some playmaking.
