Does anyone know if Yao is done with his CBA obligations this year since China is out of the Olympic tournament?
China still have one game left with Spain to compete for the 7th position. Then Yao have to fly back to Beijing for conclusion meeting. Since China is hosting the next Olympic game and will have a berth in the olympic game, he does not have to participate the qualification game 3 years from now on.
3 years is a pretty long time, you think we'll win a nba championship before Yao reports back to China for 2008?
if China gets some guards that can shoot and take care of the ball, with Yao always getting better, they could contend for a medal.
Unfortunately, he'll probably have to play next offseason in order to qualify for the World Championships in 2006. So that's the next two years. But if the CNT quits it with the meaningless exhibitions, then next year won't be so bad because China can easily breeze through the Asian competition.
So is he done with the national team after the Olympics? Also, qualifying for the World Champrionships won't be nearly as difficult or stressful, and it's probably not that many games right? If they are, they come with a lot of rest in between games I believe. Great news that China doesn't need to qualify for the Olympics, that had slipped my mind. The NBA offseason is around 4 months, so if he only has to go to China for a month, then it's not that big a deal. On a side note, isn't it very possible that Asian competitions could be held right in the middle of the NBA season? It happens with soccer all the time, and they have WAY more players playing abroad.
Two asian teams can qualify for World BBall Championship. So it's not that difficult. Yao may play some but not much next year. He definitely played much less exhibition games this year.
No Way. Fiba has always done their competitions in the summer. It's probably in keeping with the traditions of the summer olympics. Good thing that the NBA has their season in the fall and winter, as opposed to baseball's summer sessions.
