Is next year's draft class as star shallow as this one was?

This year there was a massive drop between pick 1 and 2, but there usually isn't. Is next year's draft at all top heavy? If there are 3 or so potential picks that have serious star potential I would be totally happy with trading the vets and going toddler team next season. Watching rookies and quasi-rookies develop (while securing us a solid lottery pick) would be much, much more interesting to watch than another season of Lowry/KMart/Scola and co. keeping us solidly mediocre.

Seattle/OKC built what will be a dynasty over 3 years of suck+high lottery picks.

Why is Les so adamantly opposed to tanking?

How many teams do you see with consistently high lottery picks that end up being like OKC?

    See Bobcats, Charlotte.

Tank as hard as you want; you'll still have a 75% chance of losing the #1 pick, if you're the worst team in the league.

You not only have to be the worst team to have a chance at the highest pick, but you also have to be the worst team for 3-4 years, to even be close to OKC's position.

And even then, if half of your draft picks turn out to be busts? Well, you're just out of luck.

    Tanking is stupid.

This will go down as one of the best draft classes of all time...most of these players will pan out...very few Lottery busts that are projected...

Let's at least wait a year before we write off this draft already.

The issue is how so many people judge a draft's class on stars, it' stupid. You can't expect a 2003 draft every few years. You have to look at the players and think how many have all-star potential, starter potential, good backup potential, etc. This draft was filled with guys that will potentially stay in the years for 10+ years and have important roles for their team.

I have a feeling that if we did manage to tank for the first pick, stern will make it so we have the 14th again..

This roster is too good to tank. I think the Rockets will definitely be in the top 5 if they re-sign everyone or they get a good return on them (for example: Martin and young players for Gordon).

    Starters:
Asik - seven foot defensive center who is great at rebounding and defending the paint
Scola - post scorer, good at passing and rebounding
    Parsons - all around SF
Martin - contract year, still an elite scorer
Dragic - all around PG with size

Followed by the best bench in NBA history:
    Camby - proven vet
Patterson/ White - both provide a great all around game and are capable starters.
Jones - can be what we expected Morris to be. has the ball handling skills to play SF.
Lee / Lamb - both are well rounded players. Can be a great scoring options off the bench.
Lowry - great 6th man off the bench. The Rockets can go small with Dragic at the two.

Third string reserves - Leur, Morris and Smith.

Oh, and to and to answer your question...Yes, next years top 5 will have more stars than this years.

Honestly, I think Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is going to end up being the best player from this draft. And that's not a knock on Anthony Davis at all, as I think he's going to be very good as well, but that's how good I think MKG is going to be.

Here is Chad Ford's comments from earlier today:

How is the 2013 draft class shaping up?

Not too good. No one quite on par with Anthony Davis. Nerlens Noel plays a lot like Davis but has an even rawer offensive game. After the top four or five, there's a pretty big drop off. Some scouts are saying this could be one of the worst drafts in the last decade. Sorry Bobcats fans!

that roster that you just listed is not a top 5 team. you have to be crazy to think so. it might be good for the 14th pick though.
