Im curious to know peoples thoughts on what direction this team should take? Ive heard alot of different ideas and mentalities on how the Rockets should approach this season and the future and was interested to know what everybody thought?

    Here is RT's humble opinion.......

Build for the future. All teams have their ups & downs. We are on a down right now.

Let Chuck retire this year and Hakeem next year. Free up the cap room and sign some studs.

Stockpile young athletic talent and get some damn shooters in the process. Make sure we get some players who can play big time smothering defense as well.

We have a good nucleus for the future in Francis, Anderson, & Cato. Let's surround them with equally good young talent. If we do, we could be really scary in a couple of years.

Let's get the Rockets & Comets a new arena. I don't want to get into specifics just yet. All I know is they deserve it.

    That is all. Carry on.

Stay with what we got because we are currently in a rebuild anyways.

Christian Wood let us know last year that he sign with the Rockets to tank. John Wall and EG should also be showcasing their talents for future trades to teams that are actually contending.

With that being said, instead of if-or, we're likely going to be in full rebuild and intentionally trying to win (without much success).

It wasn't a bad post. The Rockets did end up getting that new arena.

They also tried stockpiling young, athletic talent. They turned 5 picks over the next two drafts (Joel Pryzbilla, Eduardo Najera, Brandon Armstrong, Jason Collins and Richard Jefferson) into Jason Collier, Dan Langhi and Eddie Griffin. They took their shot with the picks, but it just goes to show how unpredictable those picks can be. Stockpiling young talent isn't that tough. Getting production out of them is where it gets sticky.

Rockets probably playing there cards with what they got. Wall and Gordon will probably bring the exp to the young ones. Wall and Ego are old but can still score 30+ on any given night. Dont know about ego anymore, but if he can get his 3's going you never know.

That could be valuable, at some point both are gonna have to put up the numbers to save there contracts and get rockets push maybe to win few games they probably cant without exp, or they might get traded or bought out if they dont.

But you know grooming the youth is probably a set duty of theirs right now, since the rockets have 2 great guards coming in the league. I know everyone dont like wall, but atlease Gordon is a vet that is still pretty gud, atleast if these guys get on the court, there not bad for the team and city.

I dont think Green needs Wall, he probably just ball both ego and wall tbh lol. Or teach them how to play.

So looks like the rockets rebuilt. Its a good thing. You never know if the rockets bring in a Allstar in free agency next year, that leads them to playoffs very soon.

This thread would have grown to 100 pages in a week if it was posted 22 years later. Stevie Wonder is way ahead of his time. Respect!

Naw, this was just Yet Another, at the time. We started the season 2-10. With today’s memes, it would have been marked IDIOT, sarcastically

the thread that dominated Nov-Dec 99 was Clutch’s “It’s time to Trade Barkley or Dream Now”

Or 99ers weren't bright enough to know what would happen in the 21st century. :D

rebuilds always depend on the strength of the front office.

no offense to the CD lovers on here, but i never saw the infatuation with him as a GM, coach or otherwise. His best moves more or less seemed to be luck related - getting Francis via trade after he demanded to be traded, selecting Yao #1 after they got lucky with ping pong balls. Everything else was meh - swing and a miss on Scottie.

Granted, it's probably harder when you take over a team at the top of its game basically. He became the GM right after the Barkley trade, though i'd assume he was pretty heavily involved in that too.

Obviously still WAY too early to make a final call on Stone, but so far so good.

Rebuilds work when you have the right GM making the right picks and moves. Rebuilds turn into chronic craptitude when you don't.
