Sure, let's start with psychotherapy and then progressively ease you into society:)

Sorry I haven't checked every apartment in Houston. So is that a "no"?

I would probably first search by looking at a local Houston crime map and figuring out what part of town is safest and in your rent range. Then once you find that area, look for apartment complexes and read apartment reviews.

The only downside with apartment reviews is that the only people who leave reviews are people who don't like the apartment. You'll rarely see a satisfied apartment dweller leaving a positive review. It's like a 10-1 ratio of negative to positive reviews.

My best tip is to check out the apartment during a weekday afternoon. If there are a bunch of people home when they should be working, it's a place that is best avoided.

Some crime is unavoidable in apartments, but unless you move into the true ghetto areas you really shouldn't be overly concerned with it, you can be robbed anywhere. You can certainly find a good apartment under $800.

Houston is 600 square miles. Narrow it down a bit.

Also, apartment locators are your friends. And listen to them when they tell you that $800 inside 610 won't get much.

I laughed at it, OP just has his panties in a wad.

I lived in a single bedroom in Spring that was $715 and had 0 break-ins in the year I was there. It was tiny and not upscale but I was comfortable. I moved to an upscale "luxury complex" a year ago and pay $1200 a month for a 1 bedroom. There have been several burglaries, stolen cars and one old lady was even robbed in her townhome at gun point in the middle of the night. Price isn't everything when it comes to safety.

Prob in a suburb. You can get something "okay" for that I'm assuming in a relatively "okay" part of Spring.

Good luck OP, my gut tells me that there are a lot of people in Houston looking for a safe apartment and are willing and able to pay more than $800 a month. But where there's a will there's a way.

I won't bother suggesting anything because my idea of 'safe' is probably different from OP's.
