    Impeach Trump. Then Move On.
Stop distracting from the core issue, elite negligence and national decline.
    By David Brooks

Another depressingly cynical take on the impeachment proceedings from Conservative David Brooks.

“Is it possible that more than 20 Republican senators will vote to convict Donald Trump of articles of impeachment? When you hang around Washington you get the sense that it could happen.

The evidence against Trump is overwhelming. This Ukraine quid pro quo wasn’t just a single reckless phone call. It was a multiprong several-month campaign to use the levers of American power to destroy a political rival.
    ####
And yet when you get outside Washington it’s hard to imagine more than one or two G.O.P. senators voting to convict.”

"In the first place, Democrats have not won widespread public support. Nancy Pelosi always said impeachment works only if there’s a bipartisan groundswell, and so far there is not. . . . Second, Democrats have not won over the most important voters — moderates in swing states. "

Widespread public support doesn't matter as we see often with stupid Republican policy. The notion that some voters are more important than others is an enormous problem.

I’ve said this before that this should be a matter of history and principle even if he isn’t removed from office. I don’t think though that this will be the boon to republicans that many think it will be. One of the knocks on the Democrats has been that they are wishy washy and afraid to take chances that aren’t backed up by the polls. Impeaching trump is a statement and does show that they have a spine. Further once public hearings start and more people pay attention. Things might turn around.

The thing is that misguided voters keep thinking that Democrats will win moderate voters by choosing moderate candidates. That didn't win out with Hillary and it won't win out again.

Moderate voters respect someone with the courage to take a stand and lead regardless of poll numbers. Lead, don't follow. Playing to moderates lost the Democrats the election in 2016. They have the opportunity to do it again with Biden, who nobody is excited to vote for and really eager to get behind.

Let someone who is a leader be the nominee, get out, lead, and show what they can do.

Hillary single handedly lost the election.

The Republicans should be ashamed. They b****ed and b****ed about the lack of public hearings. Now they b**** and b**** about public hearings.

I don't understand what Republicans have against Mike Pence. He seems like the golden boy for conservative politics. It would be a net positive for them if Trump is removed from office to make way for Pence; the sooner the better if he wants to distance himself from the president and get his 2020 campaign underway.

As bad of a candidate as Hillary was, she was fine until Comey did his announcement. It really took a perfect storm for Trump to win the election. I'm not a Hillary fan either but I'll also never forget that legislation for CHIP was in large part because of her when she was First Lady.

And one of the first things Trumped threatened to get rid of was CHIP along with a Republican majority House and Senate Congress that sat on their asses until rainy day funds were used by some states before continuing funding it. They realized taking away the health insurance of 9 million children with chronic illnesses that come from low income homes is a bad look PR wise. That was one of his first "100 days" of Presidency blunders that immediately told me he was a sell out only vested in his self-interests.

How can you truly believe Trump wants to put Americans first if he's willing use the livelihood of 9 million children as a negotiating tactic over a stupid ****ing wall that still isn't built and never will be?

I would start talking about the 400+ bills that are sitting on McConnel's desk that he refuses to bring to the Senate floor.
