But things would look really different if we had an owner who was encouraging our top GM to do whatever was needed to improve the team, rather than handcuffing him behind the scenes while talking a big game in public. I will enjoy the rest of this Harden/Morey stretch, because once that's done, we are going nowhere with Tilman at the helm.

At least Tilman might get rid of MDA I think Tilman will be open to tanking . After all , rookie contracts are cheap.
he wouldn't need to tank. he won't spend money to sign good players anyway so they'll just suck naturally. he won't even spend to surround harden in his prime for a title. there's nothing to say he'll spend once harden is wasted away
I wanted him before that even but when he thought it was a possibility, he became my #1 choice (because OPJ was too expensive).

I know I've said it before in other threads, but it bears repeating: As an owner, treating your team as a cost center within your bigger business empire won't work in most cases. Unless an NBA owner treats his team like any other luxury good, i.e. a sunk cost, his team's ceiling will fall short of the Finals, taking into consideration today's NBA superstar. Absent tremendous luck, an owner will have to accept the luxury tax as the cost of owning a Championship-caliber team, or find one of his super-rich friends to sell to- who will accept something he won't.
It is an investment and sunk cost. Balmer paid 2 billions for clippers five years ago. In an interview last year, when asked about buying the team, while he didnt out right say it, and clippers was profitable, the annual net profit won't put him back in the green for a very long time. Now they're looking at a new arena. If popularity continues to grow, he may be able to flip it like Les decades later. The investment is no chump change.
