If the Rockets had kept Lou Will, Montrezl, & Bev instead of trading for CP3

tomorrow on cf: "If the Rockets had signed another all-star instead of paying CP3 $160 mil"

 

Our defense improvement was partly because we got rid of players who couldn't defend. We had a 3 guy in Lou, and a 3&D guy in Bev. But with Paul, we had an everything guy - a passer on a level that neither Bev nor Williams really could match. Sure Paul's D isn't at wolverine level, and he's not going to swish as many points - but that's not what we needed. We needed a floor general who could lead - a triple threat hall of fame guy who can pass, shoot, drive, and defend well.

Would we better with Lou, Bev, and Trez? No. Because 3 very good players do not beat a hall of famer unless you don't have depth behind that Hall-of-famer. Clint and Faried give you most of what Trez gives you (in fact they are better rebounders). We have enough depth with House, Rivers, Green, and Faried that while Trez, Bev and Lou would be an upgrade over those guys they wouldn't be an upgrade over those guys when you include Paul.

People forget that our best net ratings come with Paul on the floor over ANY OTHER PLAYER.

 

Montrezl was making 1M a year at the time. Could have easily been Pablo Priggioni, Bobby Brown, etc. if it was just a salary match. I think Montrezl was a player who had showed promise and LAC wanted him legitimately as part of the deal - it was more than a cap match for sure (same goes for Dekker). I would have refused Montrezl - CP3 for Bev, Lou, Dekker and picks with some other cap match guys should have been enough.

 

Offense hasn’t never been a problem for the Rockets. The improved defense is what made us real contenders. That’s what CP3 and his leadership brings.

Gordon Lou Harden were pretty redundant. I liked Lou Will as a Rocket but we just had too many good role players and needed another star.

Really wanted to keep Trez though.

 

In the world of basketball, 3 solid pieces for 1 HOF is not a bad deal. You only have one ball in this game. And more often than not, the key games are determined by these HOF superstars. None of those three players would carry us through a playoff game - but I fully expect CP3 to do that a couple of times this playoff

 

I think what people overlook most about CP3 is his leadership.
None of the players we traded can come close to that
They all look to someone else for that leadership
in Clipper land it is DOC
In Houston they looked for it in Harden

But with CP3 - Harden combo
it is more than 48 minutes of hall of fame point guards
it is 48 minutes of cerebral leadership and calm

The Rocket do not get rattled as much as they use too
A 20 point lead lost is not an automatic loss anymore
A 20 point deficit is not insurmountable

That is worth the trade and money

I miss Trezz, but that's about it.

 

Its key to call thing by its name. History can be misprinted otherwise.

Bev was getting tired. Lou did not work when paired with EGO and he even aknowledged that on his infamous "Houston, lets pretend this 6 months never happen" tweet.
Trez started when Capela went down season before the trade and we were good altough his scoring was somehow diminished by aslight downgrade on rim protection and a larger one on rebounding. Still his rapport with Harden was great. Morey is on the record as letting be known he ated to part ways with Trez.

But even afer these points there are 2 larger points to be noted:
#1 You had the chance to a superstar for a 6th man, a Starter you discovered on Russia, 1 2nd round still unknown draft pick with potential (trez), and 1 first round pick with uneven performance (Dekker). You do that as long as you are sure CP3 has something in the tank.

#2 If the whole point is about the combined production, your agument stands on thin ice, Trez and Lou would need Harden to give up the ball more to perform as they are doing right now.

Sure when you play it on NBA2k19, otherwise stop making things up.

 

The team that gets the best player, wins the trade.

 

While I was proud of the Clippers defeating GSW at their house, people are getting ahead of themselves.

Trez is easily at a disadvantage vs a bigger/stronger PF/C.
Individual defense from Bev doesn't guarantee you a championship at all.
And Lou Will is a streaky shooter.

Clippers match up very well to GSW, but you gotta beat more teams than that. And they haven't even beaten them yet, so why're we talking like they can?

I'll put it this way -- CP means more to the Rockets than Bev, Trez, Lou means to the Clippers. Also, if we had not done the trade, we might not have signed PJ or Luc last season, or Faried this season.

The trade made a statement in house. Present role players are pretty much = to those outgone. It was memorable, posit. And scary related to cap.

Go Clips. Love Bev. But I’m happy to roll/role with this bunch.

This summer I hope to keep House in house. If not, who wine next?!!

Neither priggioni not Brown was on the team so that makes no sense and the clippers wanted Barrel so are you willing to avoid the trade because of Harrel?

They had to sign guys off the street to match salaries so there were no other guys to match.
