If Howard could pick any 2 other guys (excluding Lebron, KD and CP3) to form a "big 3" w/ the next 2

    Who would they be?
    Who should they be?

Hypothetical questions, but perhaps of some relevance. The Rockets have made it apparent that their plans is to assemble 3 top guys and fill in around them.

So, lets say that the foundation piece is Dwight Howard-- you might disagree, but he's the guy who's taken a team deep into the playoffs without another elite teamate-- and you get to choose any two running partners for him and then fill in the rest of the team with guys reasonably available on the market.

    The (somewhat arbitrary) rules are:

    1. We are excluding the all too obvious choices of Lebron, Durant and CP3. The first two are the consensus top 2 guys in the NBA and CP3 is most liked 3rd and Dwight's already been reported to have wanted to play with him. But the rest of the field is open.

    2. Given Dwight's age-- not too old, but not too young, either-- we are focused on the relatively near future of the next couple years. Feel free to pick anyone from Bradley Beal to Dirk Nowitzki, just keep the "two year window" in mind.

    3. These two guys, once selected, must remain on the team for the next two years.

I want to focus on which guys will function on court the best and fits with Howard, not just the two most valuable trade assets. For example, let say that you really think that LaMarcus Aldridge would be better next to Dwight than Anthony Davis, but Davis is a more valuable trade asset. You can't just select Davis under the theory that you can trade Davis for Aldridge plus something else of value.

    4. Salary and contract status are excluded from consideration. Let's just say that whoever is picked will be on the team for the next 2 season and earning whatever the max salary is and that the salary that these guys earn won't effect the quality of the supporting cast around them. (So, no picking, say, Lillard, because his rookie scale salary allows you to add a 4th elite free agent).

    Parker/Curry/Westbrook/Harden/Davis/Love

I'd go with Parker and Westbrook (as a 2).

Give me a young Steve Nash, in his Suns back to back mvp play, along with Kevin Love in Houston to perfectly all compliment each others' games. Thats definitely a squad that would compete with anyone offensively, and given who you fill in at the 2 and the 3, you could have a solid defense anchored by Superman.

I asked Dwight the question, he gave this response:

    1. Harden
    2. Parsons

I know, I know, it's as stupid a post as any of Carl Herrera's. My bad.

All these answers are so wrong.

    Correct answer is

    1. Kyle Lowry
    2. Patrick Patterson

That will be championship... or 9th seed. But who's really keeping track.
