God bless Trump. Border security is front and center. Love the spat he had with both Pelosi and Schumer in front of the cameras. Let the Supreme Court decide the fate of DACA recipients. Awesome job on calling Pueblo sin fronteras bluff on the recent migrant caravan. Si de Puede!!

The only possible positive outcome from Peloschumer taking this meeting live, on-camera would be for Trump to publicly accept blame for the shutdown.

There was going to be no agreement at all. None of these things ever works out.

All they were doing was damaging their standing with the anti-Pelosi/Schumer factions of the Democratic caucus and making people angry.

And of course, Trump is so bad and easily triggered, he gave them exactly what they wanted. They're not exactly Danny Ocean and crew. But they got it nonetheless.

Is there any part of presidenting that Trump doesn't suck at? Anything at all?

The wall really is the perfect symbol of the utter stupidity of Trumpism: a simplistic, brain-dead solution to an extremely complicated problem.

He'll still blame it on Democrats.

This is actually a pretty adroit move. Act like a shutdown is something to be proud of and his followers will think it is.

Forcing a shutdown by itself is kind of a desperation move, but the cheap coat of paint he is using to sell the potential shutdown is better than playing hot potato with the Democrats as usually happens.

Act like it isn't something to be ashamed of and people who dont know any better will believe it isn't.

Trump definately knows how to stage a show for the rubes. I wouldn't give him credit for much, but he's a pretty talented snake oil salesman.

It also doubles as nice bluster if hes concerned the dems think he might back down.

How can anyone possibly be this delusional. This idiot in chief said over and over that Mexico was paying for the wall, and the sheep that support him ate it up. Now that he can’t keep that promise to the surprise of nobody with a brain, he’s still crying about a wall that he now wants Americans to pay for, and his supporters are once again falling for it. This is seriously embarrassing.

I don't think the people rallying behind Trump really ever cared who paid for it.

That promise was for the 5% or so who were on the fence about Trump at the time and who are already off the bandwagon.

I actually think this is the crux of it. It's a pretty established negotiating ploy -- in a game of chicken, take your steering wheel and throw it out the window and your counterparty knows that if they don't concede then a crash is inevitable. Trump has put himself on the hook to shut down the government. Now, Congress has to decide whether or not to crash, knowing that Trump is pretty unlikely to reverse himself now. I don't expect Congress will change course either, so there is going to be a shut down. Democrats better start lining up what concessions they want because probably this ends with some money being approved for the border wall and some other goodies for Republicans in Congress in exchange for something Democrats want. Trump probably hopes that's an infrastructure bill or DACA, but I think they'd be fools to give either to Trump.

Not according to noted political strategist Donald Trump.

Trump's followers believe Trump because Trump. It requires no special maneuver to retain them, either. They're malleable, for them criminality and incompetence is a feature as much as it is a bug. Alone they're not really enough to save his presidency in 2020 so the focus paid on them is overrwrought at times, but whatever.

History (or Twitter, if that's what passes for it these days) has shown any type of perceived "deft move" by Trump is generally never thought through and almost entirely certain to be contradicted within minutes/hours/days by another seemingly random outburst. Which is what happens, when you have a blathering idiot surrounded by incompetents who has somehow been colossally indulged in his gilded life because of rather than despite his stuntedness.

By now, we should all know, there is entirely no method to that particular madness.

What we saw was reality TV Trump, and he knew exactly what he was doing. His brainwashed supporters will eat this up and praise him even more for taking on Schumer and Pelosi over an issue he believes strongly in. Case in point, see MiddleMan's post above.

That is a stupid thing to say.

I am fine with her thinking it, but keep it in.

Reminds me of when Hillary compared dealing with North Koreans to dealing with children. Absolutely true, but nothing good can come from speaking out loud beyond offending Trump and his troglodytes.

and Schumer sneered at Trump winning North Dakota and Indiana in the Senate. Gonna feed the basket of deplorables narrative just that much more. It's like Democrats just want to hand Trump material to work with

What is the deal with belittling trump supporters here? You can debate without name calling.
