I think the astros can rectify a mistake by getting Justin Verlander

The guy is probably the greatest pitcher of this generation. He can lock teams down quick.

Didn't realize it but the astros have until August 31 to trade for him.

    This needs to happen.

Doesn't appear the Tigers are serious about trading him.

At least for any reasonable cost that is.

Well I can understand it. Justin is a game changing pitcher. He won't be cheap.

    For your amusement:

I spent a few hours researching this. The name I came up with: Austin Hedges. It's going to take a haul to get this guy. I'm thinking Kyle Tucker for starters. And I wouldn't hesitate to do that, either. Maybe more than Kyle Tucker at this point. We might have to give them Martes as well. It's going to take a lot. But I do feel that the Padres would be open to dealing him for the right haul.

    - what

I mean, money talks in the end, but I'm sure Verlander is looking at the Astros right now and saying, "God, I hope I don't give up 1 run and lose if I go with them." The team isn't exactly auditioning very well to attract good, experienced talent before the waivers deadline.

And yet we still have scored 50+ more runs than the next best team this season. I know the last week or so has been rough offensively, but I don't think our lineup is something to be concerned about long-term with this team. Especially if we get fully healthy again.

Brett Favre to sign with the Jets! Will be announced soon...
That 12 game lead just looks terrible. Verlander just started watching baseball, too, so I'm sure he's unaware of how a season plays out with it's ebbs and flows.

Can we just let this thread die the stupid death it deserves?

So you're saying they won't get Verlander.

The Astros lead Major League Baseball in runs scored as well as team OPS. They also have a 12-game lead in their division and, per FanGraphs, a 100% probability of reaching the postseason.

But, yeah - I'm sure Verlander would rather stay with the Tigers because of a bad 10-game stretch in which the team is 5-5.

Did he say this about Derek Fisher? Because we spent a few innings yesterday in HR Alley and Fisher DEFINITELY had a large iPhone shape in his back left pocket.

Verlander pitched a 1 hit 6 to 1 win against the Dodgers last night. What will it take to get this guy. Come on Astros step up and let's do what it takes to get Verlander. In the history of the Astros only 1 time to the World Series and they lost.

I guess that's better than Tim Raines and his vial of coke.
