i agree we need to flank him with more help in the paint. but at the same time he is not blameless at all. his boxing out is practically NON-EXISTENT and his 1on1 defensive positioning and footwork are simply horrid. he also gives up on plays and just gets down on himself very easily when he starts getting abused by bigger players
Hard to hate on him when he is the only real big on the team and defensive presence most of the time. Heck, you want to see Harden on Valanciunas and other Centers full time? As effective it has been, it is also cruel to see it. In terms of cruel, it shows we have limited options there.
I wouldn't say he's a big success. The majority of the points he scores are from key passes from Harden and Paul, Yeah, he's had some big games this season, but I also feel he's a had a lot of bad games..... especially since the all star weekend.
Capela is not able to push around big body such as boogie, bogut. Need another big body, it costs money.
Let's be clear, he benefits a ton from CP3/Harden... But they benefit a crap ton from his sprinting up the floor, great hands, and elite lob threat as well.
Devil's advocate, if we think the Rockets are being officiated differently than the rest of the NBA this year, and other than Harden's ability to get to the free throw line, it sort of looks that way, might a bit of Capela's timidity be due to him not knowing what's going to get a call or not? The rest of our bigs have had foul issues in many games, often on short minutes. No reason to think Capela isn't also suffering under official scrutiny. But even if that's true, he's just got to do better at protecting the rim and getting some rebounds. Teams can't rattle off 75 percent shooting quarters and have us expect the Rockets to do well.
Dude routinely outplays the best bigs in the league. Chill. The rebounding had more to do with the super long and athletic rest of the team which present a matchup nightmare for the Rockets. This might have been a good game to play Faried at the 4 or something. Capela only has two arms while Memphis routinely had 6 going after every rebound.
First CP now Clint huh? How about maybe the whole team played down as usual? A lot of teams are playing down right now. Has anyone else noticed all of the huge upsets around the league in just the last couple of weeks? Clint and CP both show up during the playoffs. Clint kicked two borderline all nba centers ass when it mattered. This is a HUGE over reaction. IMHO the Rockets only care about beating GS and winning a ring. It’s the reason why they can’t get up for these weak teams. They know how close they were last year and want another shot to make it right. Same reason why CP can look so great vs GS but below average vs a weak opponent. He only cares about getting another shot at GS and a ring. A motivated Capela will give teams hell when the playoffs start. That’s all that matters. Calm Down.
LMAO!!!! Remember the Dwight/Harden experience you guys after a loss want what we lacked in a SINGLE game lol. Relax, Clint is battling out there with 4 guys under 6'5" we are going to get pushed around by bulkier teams. When PJ is 6'4" and your power forward its gonna be harder getting defensive rebounds. The mistake was leaving him out there with Jonas when Nene is way more heavier than Clint. Should have played the vet and had a fresher Clint go at Noah. Friday vs. Poeltl will be a different story and another crazy thread.
So Capela keeps getting switched into guards at the top of the key and he’s expected to get all the rebounds too?? Valanciunas was a man tonight, but MDA needs to play a PF or a backup C. Either Nené needs to be available or he needs to forfeit his game checks on games he “rests.” No reason why he couldn’t have played 15 mins tonight.
Stop jerking your knees. Capella is the only real big and interior defender on this team. He went against a very formidable opponent who has a couple inches and 30lbs on him, on the second night of a back to back no less. Have faith. He shows up when it matters.
Clint isn't there mentally yet. When was the last time you've seen him make a clever, high basketball IQ play? All the value he brings to the Rockets is with his athleticism and ability to for the most part finish near the basket. He doesn't know how to sell calls, he let's big guys bully him, and he tilts when things aren't going his way. He clearly has an on/off switch with his motor and it is NOT pretty when it's off. When the opposing center has both hands on him, he could just jump and sell the over the back call, but he never does. It's also on coaching for sure but you'd think with having such smart and crafty teammates like Harden and Paul, you'd learn a thing or two from them as well.
