This article said it was mediocre, though I have to contest that not nearly as how the article made it sound.

Laettner wasn't as great as he was in college. But, I thought he was more than decent pro and at least among the top 12 - 15 power forwards in the league, during the 90s (not in Malone, Barkley, and Rodman class)...but good player especially in Minnesota and Atlanta.

It's like a fart. It's loud, it grabs attention, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't do much...

Ok, maybe he's like a silent but deadly fart.

And American bred. Doesn't bode well for NBA basketball players, save for very few names ala Larry Bird.

Overall though, yeah, mediocre sums it up. Not good, not great. But far from a failure. Putting him on original Dream Team of 1992 extremely way over the top though.

Laettner is more known for that shot against Kentucky than anything else.
Like a lot of Duke players....good in college....sucks in the NBA.

You've got to admit that with the large volume of good college players from Duke, they ought to have produced a lot more NBA stars than they have.

He showed more passion in the showers after the game than he ever did during the game.

He's one of those players that you just kinda forget about... even when he was still playing.

I wouldn't say he sucked in the NBA. He was a decent player, solid starter, and had a niche (finesse PF/small C who could shoot) that let him last in the NBA. I'd put "sucks" as a different category than that i.e. Adam Morrison or JJ Redick.

Whoa whoa whoa... talkin' 'bout Laettner in here? Man, it's too early in the night to be wondering if there'll be rogue vomit somewhere in the house tomorrow morning.

"What is that smell? A Laettner thread?" ROLF-ROLF! :p

Dukies are cursed. Any good Dukie player gets bit by the injury bug. Its solid, injured or busts for that school.

When I saw the thread title the first word that came to mind was mediocre. 12-15 in the league is pretty much mediocre.

Laettner has no concept of... of anything. I heard him do an interview, he said he wanted to coach in the near future. They asked him if he was gonna get on the bench as an assistant to prepare... he basically said he would just become a head coach. magically? He just doesn't seem to get it. Like when he tried to buy a piece in the Grizzlies so he could put himself on the roster. Weird dude. Weird weird dude.

He was okay. Overrated going into the NBA, still a serviceable average player. A white Juwan Howard without the crazy contract.

He was a jerk, though. Didnt win over too many people with his personality in the pros.
