There's an armadillo living under my tool shed in the backyard. It's dug up a couple of pathways under my fences and one to get under my shed. What's the best way to get rid of this thing? I actually saw it one night when I let the dogs out and had to keep the dogs away from it. What's the best way to get rid of this sucker? I don't want to kill it but need to get it out of my yard. Any advice, except for eating eat, is greatly appreciated!
build a little stretch of highway next to your shed. seriously though, if you live in town, animal care and control will bring a trap out for you. tell them you are worried that it has rabbies.
Thanks guys for the advice. I'm actually in Pearland so I'll check to see if they're animal control will provide a live trap.
Pellet gun. Take care of it really quick. Not killing a filthy animal is wrong. Watch out because some do carry lepracy.
Do not touch it with bare hands. They can carry leprosy. I had one and I filled the hole with water. I planned to shoot it when it came out. It decided to drown instead and I just filled the hole in.
They are dumber than a box of hammers.......the best way to get it out of your yard is to poisen the heck out of the grass killing it's food source...the bugs. They will move on.....eventually.....and I think it is illegal to trap it.... DD
Certain animal control places can give you a free trap. I belive you pay a deposit. They come pick up the animal, and give you your deposit back once the trap is returned.
They eat grub worms that make June Bugs. If you get rid of the one, another will just come take it's territory. Try just making peace with your environment.
Yes, it would be better lo live with a leper animal. Invite it into your home. Become one with nature.
Thanks for all the funny replies and boy can these suckers run fast! I tried wacking it the other night w/a shovel but couldn't get to it quick enough. I called Pearland Animal Control and will go pick up a trap to set it in the yard near the shed. They'll pick up the trap and armadillo once it's caught (crossing fingers)! The Animal Control lady told me these things can jump pretty high too so I ain't getting too close to it anytime soon. But in the meantime I might just try flooding the burrow with water to see what comes out of the hole...
