Let's start thinking about who were going to draft number 1! This season is a joke. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Yeah but to bad our pitchers are all pitchers that give up homers. Its a great place for them. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
You know with regard to Enron Field. At some point, the Astros will probably be a good ballclub (it could happen!) and seeing them win at Enron will be pretty special. It is easy to dismiss it now because they suck, but Carl Everett could not save this team and neither could Mike Hampton. This is a VERY bad team. Eventually, they will be a good team again and Enron will be a hell of a place to see them win. Until then, just enjoy the setting and try not to get too caught up in the outcome. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" SaveOurRockets.com
Jeff, What's sad is that this is not a very bad team. Look at who we lost: Derek Bell Carl Everett Ricky Gutierrez Mike Hampton Who we have gained: Roger Cedeno Moises Alou Richard Hidalgo (hurt most of last year) Ken Caminiti (hurt most of last year) Mitch Meluskey (hurt most of last year) Octavio Dotel The only net loss is Octavio Dotel. The rest are equal or net gains. (If Spiers continues to play well, he may offset the Guti loss). So, it's too simple to say this is a bad team. They've been fine for the past three years. It's also too simple to blame the new park. There's an article in SI which chronicles the homers hit in one week at Enron. None were so-called "Enron" homeruns. I think the problem lies with the coaching staff. They haven't done enough to properly prepare the players psychologically for the new stadium. Plus, they don't know when to quit. Take Friday night for example. Cabrera comes in, strikes out the only two batters he faces, and Dierker goes with Wagner, who had blown his previous four save attempts, who promptly blows another save. My opinion, if Dierker and Rhule are such great pitching gurus, this wouldn't be happening. I would look at getting rid of them if no improvement is made soon. ------------------ Get your proper swirve on...visit www.swirve.com (coming in mid-June, for now visit www.eesite.com) [This message has been edited by Rocketman95 (edited May 28, 2000).]
That was unbelievable. What was funny was that we swung at about 4 or 5 pitches that would have been ball 4's and tied the game. Even Hidalgo's game ending double play ball was a ball 4. I'm not ready to dismiss the season yet. If we put together a good run, a wild card may still be in reach. It is too early in the season to pack it in. Give them a chance- this is virtually the same team as last year with the exceptions of Everett and Hampton, who were good but not to the point where we should be this much worse without them. ------------------
