Celtics probably won the trade in terms of sheer value, but Philly got a position of need. Fultz, flaws and all, is insanely talented and if he learns to shoot consistently and proves to be coachable, Sixers, with the other stud talent in Embiid, Simmons, Saric, and plethora of quality role players in covington, Reddick and such will be a force to be reckoned with. I know this isnt a bold statement, but as long as Philly can stay healthy, they have makings of a potential dynasty.
Ainge pretty much kills everyone on trades. Its more lopsided than morey. He could probably flip kyrie for a higher pick than the nets pick he gave up.
Jayson Tatum is an exceptional, young player, but I believe that Fultz will, career-wise, come out the far more dynamic player. While Tatum has length, a great jump shot, and other attributes that Fultz will never possess, Fultz looks like he can be dynamic with the ball in the same way (though perhaps to a lesser extent) that Harden is. Let's see what we see over time. That said, this Philadelphia team is looking to have the makings of a great string of years going forward. Call me crazy, but the key players for that team may well end up being Fultz and Simmons with Embiid being a close second.
In the end, the Celtics won this trade, big-time. Simmons' ascent (remember, the trade was made before this season, Simmons' first) makes Fultz a glorified backup. Boston wanted Tatum anyway, so they got a free 1st round pick. With Portland and San Antonio exposed, the East will probably soon catch the West, with BOS, PHI and TOR a better top-3 overall than what the West will have.
The point is you said The Fultz trade wasn't bad because Sixers are still top 3 in the East. I'm saying their current record and future prospect has nothing to do with the trade. It made them worse, pure and simple since they gave up a first round pick for someone they would have gotten all along.
Philly would have gotten Fultz anyway (or better yet Donivan Mitchell) if they had stayed pat at no 3. I know they are still stacked but the trade itself was horrible for Philly. 1st rounders mean a lot now due to the increased player salaries.
I can't vote on this. It's way too early to know. Right now, it definitely looks like the Celtics won big. But Markelle was injured all year. What if he comes back and shows MVP potential?
Lets see what Fultz will do this year & next season before they make a judgement on Fultz, Tatum is a special talent, It will be interesting to see Tatum once Kyrie & Hayward come back next season.
