Have had a hard time looking for low sodium meals at restaurants. Most I can have a day is 1500 mg. One meal at most restaurants is already that number. Why must everything have sodium?

All Pappas are scratch kitchens. Just tell a manager about your situation and they can make things happen for you. ;)

I 2nd what was posted, you sometimes can find restaurants that will prep certain meals special for circumstances like this. The American diet in general is like impossible to avoid salt when you're eating out unfortunately... unless you ask.

It sucks to have to do it sometimes, but it's worth it for you health, sorry to hear about this. I know there's meds your doctor can give to lower sodium but not fun to manage in addition to anything else... Typically easier depending on the health situation- it's probably better to just eat a little different. That's one reason cooking at home is nice... But can get old if you're into going out etc.

Regardless I hope things get better, salt obviously impacts some people different than others but I think it catches up with everyone just because of the amount used at some places. On a side note pay attention to foods at the grocery store, you'd be surprised on some of foods that are loaded with them (I'm sure you know this, but sharing for others).

Hope everything goes better for you!

I think most restaurants are high in sodium because salt fat and sugar tastes great.

Salt makes everything taste better, unfortunately there's no substitute for it.

No disrespect but aren't you in your mid twenties? Are you taking bp medicine? It's usually fairly cheap.

Potassium chloride is not exactly good for a lot of people.

Plus it doesn't really act like salt in cooking (as opposed to putting it on fries or whatever), and no restaurant will have it.

Plus salt make people thirsty and drinks = profits. There’s a reason why a lot of bars have free pretzels or peanuts and I’ve seen some even offer free bacon.

Yes, but if you have HBP, it'll do in a pinch.

Frustrating how not many restaurants display their nutritional value on their menu

If you have high bp, you should be eating more veggies/salads and less fried foods/meats. Also eating out less in general.

If it must be so, then where are the best salad restaurants in Houston?

I believe you when you say you hate the taste.

However, I have to tell you..... you just have to do it or you will be miserable and in bad shape when you are older.

If you are already on BP medicine in your 20's..... it is no joke.

You will eventually get used to salads or really anything else.
