Houston officials actively exploring the trade market for Clint Capela, Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker.

The Rockets are indeed shopping everyone on the roster not named Harden. The complexities involved in moving Chris Paul, who at age 34 has three years and nearly $125 million left on his contract, have Houston officials actively exploring the trade market for Clint Capela, Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker.

As one source with knowledge of the team’s thinking said, they are operating under the belief that at least one of those three mainstays will not be a Rocket next season.

After ousting four of D’Antoni’s assistant coaches before last week’s drama, Houston also has to restock its bench with assistant coaches willing to come to town despite D’Antoni’s lame duck status. Which figures to be tricky, too.
Morey is as resourceful as any executive in the league, so you can bet on him to find a way to swing some meaningful moves amid all the tension. I suppose it’s also possible, as ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy optimistically theorized in a recent TV appearance, that the Rockets and D’Antoni could try again to work out a new deal when (if?) all parties gain some emotional distance from their shared playoff disappointment.

Tucker should be retained. He is the heart and soul of the team.

Morey does not compute heart nor soul. Could you translate that into basketball code speak?

I expect 3 trades before June 20, draft day., possible other teams.

I’d like to to see Paul deal first.

Good. Only losers stick with the same team because they think that they'll one day get over the hump. It rarely ever happens. Most of the champions and even Finals teams had to make significant changes to get to where they are. There's definitely a lot of flaws in the system/coaching and flawed players to fix with this team.

I'm gonna root for PJ Tucker no matter where he's playing. I hope it's us.

This is probably to try and scrounge up as manay assets for an AD deal.

Doubt they are shopping them otherwise.

This doesn't sound like news- it sounds like nothing but speculation.

Anyone who has been paying at least a little bit of attention for the past couple of weeks could have wrote that.

"BREAKING: The Rockets are trying to get better!"

You automatically improve when you trade Paul. Others are unknown.
After dealing Paul, you fix the team.
If you trade Paul for 2 bigs and a wing you trade capela for a point guard.

If Tucker is gone our defense falls off even harder than last season.

I dont disagree at all. Tuck plays with so much passion, and he has a toughness that basically everyone else on the roster lacks (which is what makes it so enjoyable and cathartic to watch), especially with a milquetoast big man like Capela, an over-the-hill Nene, and the disappearing act of House come playoff time.

What makes Tucker so valuable is what makes him tradeable. He plays above his pay range, and many teams are looking for a little more grit with defensive specialists being rare commodities. Having said that, in terms of raw numbers and frankly, often the eye test, PJ can be a liability on a number of occasions. His offense is basically corner threes and not much else. He plays bigger than his size, but we get outrebounded badly when he has to play the five. We are in dire need of a player who can give us some post presence or work the ball through on occasion when Harden and CP3 dont have it going - Capela is amazingly effective with little more than a lob alley oop in his arsenal. If we're able to parlay PJ for a player with better shooting ability and size (while giving up a little toughness and grit), I'd take that trade and dont think we should let our emotions get in the way of smart player personnel moves.

i love tucker like the rest of you, but if trading him could help get another legit star here, i will pack his shoe collection for him and wish him fairly well. i think you guys have forgot how many times he has missed wide open shots our offense desperately needed him to make to give guards room to operate. he is not a great player. he plays very hard, but he is certainly expendable in the big picture.
