Houston has a decent argument based on a past promise and appropriations however...come on. Austin is one of the leading live music cities in the country and has two of the top 10 music festivals in the country. SXSW is easily in the top 5 and ACL is usually in the top 10. It only attracts around 30,000 people a year but all of those people are so connected to the music industry and it has way more bands than your traditional open area stage music festival. ACL brings in 450,000 people a year. Indie Music Fun Fun Fun Fest has been replaced by Sound on Sound Fest and it's too early to tell how that'll work out but it's still something. Austin also has a national (PBS) weekly show that's decades old featuring a lot of great musical acts in an intimate setting. The museum would be walking distance from about 30 venues that have live music every Friday and Sat night. It belongs in Austin. Also, Houston already has a lot of other museums. Have you been to the Bob Bullock museum? Not the most exciting place and I love museums. The Art museum is ok. Other Texas Cities are also fighting to get the museum because it would approve their economy.

Come on... let us have this one. We don't have many places like this. We have a very small kid's museum and extremely small aquarium. The art museum is good but not close to what Houston already has. Science Museum? Forget about it. Please....

Houston can't even sign decent headliners for Free Press...

    Embarrassing lineup this year.

This ought to be in a big league city like Houston - not a minor league city like Austin.

houstons music legacy is rich enough for its own museum, but if we are talking texas music history museum it should absolutely be in austin.

im not some "austin is the live music capital of the world keep austin weird" believer, but we are the state capitol and the live music scene plays a huuuge role in the tourism industry. its something people come here to experience and a music history museum would be a natural draw for them.

honestly, i think lubbock would have a better case for a texas music history museum than houston!

I hope you're a bit more positive in real life than your persona on this site.

Houston doesn't really support live music like Austin does. Even if this museum were in Houston, I don't think people would even go. There is a reason why a lot of indie bands based out of Austin have Houston natives. They move to where the music culture thrives.

based on the fact that he is an adult male who is a beyonce fan, im guessing he is a bit more fabulous in real life than his persona...not that there's anything wrong with that!

zz top is the biggest band to ever come out of texas, but austin has historically had a more robust and innovative live music scene that has spawned more important musical movements. think outlaw country with willie and waylon in the 70's...that is the music most people associate with texas. but austin was also also an early incubator for psychedelic (13th floor elevators) in the 60's...punk in the late 70's-early 80's with the big boys and the dicks...blues-rock in the late 70's and 80's with SRV. weirdo-outsiders in the 80's like the butthole surfers, scratch acid and daniel johnston.

and why is freddy fenders daughter arguing for houston...freddy was from san antonio, a city that i think has a better case than houston for a texas music museum.

If it's the Texas music museum, it should be in the state capital. There are diverse styles from all over the state - Houston's hip hop and blues, San Antonio's tejano, Austin's country, the Hill Country's folk and Dallas' sound of its own farts - that should be represented in its capital city. The Bob Bullock museum isn't the Austin History Museum, it's the Texas State History Museum.
