    High-level nuclear waste at the Hanford nuclear reservation was buried decades ago in bottomless containers less than four miles from the Columbia River, the Energy Department said Friday. The agency said that may be why the level of radioactive tritium in area groundwater is 400 times higher than the federal safety standard.

    i'm guessing they mean un-lined. In Erin Brockovich, the utility company dumped their waste water into un-lined containment ponds, which allowed the waste to seep into the ground and mix with the groundwater and cause the surrounding town to become a cancer cluster.

    Good movie if you haven't seen it. Julia Roberts gives an Oscar-worthy performance.
