    from Hoopsworld.com....

Here are some things NOT being said about Brown’s future…
Larry Brown is expected to resign today.
BIG MONEY: Brown is likely going to command in excess of $8 million per season according to those in the know. He has mentioned what his next deal would need to be worth, and that’s the range he’d be seeking… TOTAL CONTROL: LB wants to run the whole shooting match, meaning if he goes to Houston, Carroll Dawson is likely out, same with Elgin Baylor in LA, but word is Brown would rather see Memphis Tigers head coach John Calipari get the Clips job, in fact he personally recommended Coach Cal for the job. Rumor is he’s seeking a Pat Riley type of job...THE 76ERS OWN HIM FOR 2 MORE SEASONS: Brown has two more seasons remaining on his deal, while the 76ers will clearly honor his request to step down, coaching another team, especially one in the eastern conference is going to require hefty compensation. Landing Pat Riley cost the Heat $1 million in cash and an unprotected first round draft pick, you can expect that the Sixers will seek more than that - it’s business. TEACHING ENVIRONMENT: Brown is drawn to environments that he can shape and teach in, so an established team isn’t likely going to make him happy. Known has one who loves his own misery, brown would likely thrive in Cleveland, but Houston may not be as a attractive unless Les Alexander allows him to rip up the team, the same would be true of Toronto. Overall, there is little doubt that Brown could be coaching somewhere else next year, but at what cost remains to be seen. It’s expected that Brown will resign his post as early as today and hold a press conference this week to discuss his future.

Hoopsworld already got 1 of the 3 things wrong. Brown was waived from the 2-year contract. He can coach anywhere he likes.

update from the Rocket Guy who is usually on point, except for his opinion that drafting Yao Ming = BAD!!!...

Update - Apparently Larry Brown's real interest is in the Clippers' job, which has been offered to NBA great Dennis Johnson. The Clips are waiting to hear from Johnson, but in the mean time the Rockets may be more interested in Paul Silas. Silas is ready to take over the Rockets, and may be more of a fit for what the Rockets are looking for. Les Alexander wants to keep Carroll Dawson in place as GM, and Larry Brown will only coach if he is given complete autonomy as GM and President of Basketball Operations, as well. Alexander is understandably hesitant to hand that kind of power over to Brown, who is not as good as Dawson. Additionally, the Sixers are going to want something in the form of compensation for Brown, which likely means a first round draft pick. Silas would be much cheaper, Brown would also draw $9 million a year in salary, and would not want to take over the entire organization.

Bottom line? Brown would be an excellent fit, but is he worth the money? Paul Silas is an excellent coach and wants the Houston job above all else. Paul Silas may actually be the one to land the job.

The Rocket Guy is almost NEVER on point. I can't even believe you said that. And you can expect this thread, like all threads from Hoopsworld, to be locked any second now.

I would not hand the job of GM to any coach. GM-Coach in the one hand of one person is a disaster. Look what Riley did in Miami, Riley the GM failed Riley the coach tremendously. The former Packers coach, now the GM-coach in Seattle failed the job as well.

Hilarious too that he predicts Silas when we're not even talking to him. He's probably sixth or seventh on Alexander's list at best. This guy makes stuff up and people still read it, years after he's been exposed as a fraud.

No I do not subscribe, and I was saying the Rocket guy is on point sarcastically.

    hoopsworld = on crack:

    1. Money is not an issue for les, he has never skimped in order to win. He'll raise ticket prices sure, but he's not afraid to spend the benjamins to create a winner either.

    2. Well if CD goes, so what? CD and Rudy shared personnel duties, aand as I said before, CD is getting up there and has had health problems of his own; I don't see a reduction in his role as being that bad.

    3. As stated before, Philly waived his rights.

    4. Teaching environment? YOu can't be serious if you think the Rockets don't offer this; the Rockets are one of the youngest teams in the league still, and, oh yeah, we got yao. Brown didn't quit so that he could go to the lottery every year

It's very important to read The Rocket Guy regularly so you know which rumors and opinions are a complete crock of ****.

Why is it that if one sportswriter mentions "Brown to the Clippers a possibility" then they all jump on it like a bum on a baloney sandwich?

Brown wants Houston. Why did he quit Philly so suddenly? Rudy probably called him up: "Look, buddy, it won't hurt my feelings. In fact, I want you here."

The Clippers might have been more enticing when Brown was younger and not seeing himself closer to the end than the beginning. And the chance to coach Yao and leave Iverson?
