I ditched DirecTv last month and use streaming services such as Netflix. I also want to get local channels so I need to get an antenna for the house. I need one that does VHF and UHF since Fox is on channel 7 in Austin. So what do you guys recommend?

It could depend on your location in town, but you will need an "amplified" antenna. Check out http://www.antennaweb.org/Info/AntennaInfo.aspx to educate yourself on what you need to get the best reception. I've used their guides all the time.

This here one always would work for me in Katy for all the major channels on RCA TVs with the digital box:

It cost $18 at Circuit Pity way back in 1999.

Also, TERK makes pretty good amplified antennae. This here one is attached to my big-screen TV:

    .

    You don't need a $50 antenna.

Don't get fooled by advertising and spend a bunch of money.

If you live in the city, a simple pair of your dad's old rabbit ears with a bow-tie will pull in most stations.

Give it a try before you invest a big chunk of change.

I might need to try something more powerful. I tried rabbit ears and get a few channels. Depending on what channel I have to watch I have to reposition it. I bought one of those powered antennas and same thing. I live right by the reliant. Anyone got an antenna model that I can use and not have to keep adjusting to get all the channels?

When staying in a corporate apartment I used an antenna and this is the same problem I experienced. I always had to adjust the antenna depending on the channel I wanted to view despite being in a central area of the city I was in.

I think Terk Antenna's are your best choice.

Make your own with a 2x4, 8 wire coat hangers, washers and screws, and a $5 transformer from radio shack. For less than $10, you can build a better antenna than you can buy for $40.

Yeah, that'll look real good in the tv room:rolleyes:

I bought one at Target for I think $12. Gets the job done.

Get an outdoor antenna and install it under your roof.

I guess I should have clarified. I have four TV's so I don't want to buy four ugly rabbit ears. I was looking for an attic or outdoor solution.

Sorry, I didn't know we were women here who cared more about aesthetics than functionality and practicality.

I've had this antenna since the digital conversion and it works great.

I've tried some more expensive indoor antennas and it didn't change my reception. I've lived in Aldine area and near the Heights and in neither spot could I get KUHT. Every other channel I've been able to get just fine. There are certain times I have to move the antenna around to get CBS.
