I saw The Wind Rises last night at Santikos with meh nieces. F-ucking loved it!!!! Top 10 for 2014 fo sho.
It's not only a shame if you've never seen one of Hayao Miyazaki's films. It's a crime. Even his earlier films are treasures. Just freaking unbelievably good. The Castle of Cagliostro Castle in the Sky My Neighbor Totoro Kiki's Delivery Service Princess Mononoke 2001 Spirited Away Howl's Moving Castle The Wind Rises
I liked it, but it wasn't as magical as his other ones. Still after finishing the film, I walked out of the movie with this inexplicable feeling of happiness, even though my film major brain was being critical. tl;dr watching a miyazaki film has a distinct happiness buzz to it
My five favorites: Howl's Moving Castle Spirited Away Princess Mononoke Porco Rosso My Neighbor Totoro They're all amazing, of course. Miyazaki is definitely my favorite director. No one else has made so many movies I love.
Never got his films. I mean, they're good, the plot is involving. I just don't take away a very strong message; esp. that Disney feeling most people are talking about. The characters don't really develop that much. And I'm not a big fan of the character designs.
