I'm not talking about a chronic illness because that trumps the acute instances that I'm referring to. It seems I was doing well up until my torn meniscus (sept. 2016) which my workers comp still has not approved surgery for. In late November, I thought my allergies were acting up, but it turns out I had a bad case of sinusitis that I had to go to a specialist for. Finally got it all cleared up mid January....it sucked being stuffed up for so long. And now, this past Friday after dinner, I felt a sharp stabbing pain immediately above my belly button. I've had had it before but it usually went away after a couple of hours. Went to bed, and the next day the pain was a little worse, but when I coughed, it lit me up! I had to push down on the area to clear my throat, cough, or drop a deuce. I went on with my day, went out to dinner, drinks, and sexy time with my gf. Sexy time was painful, even after about ten bourbons. I got a heavy duty lumbar support belt, reversed, and have been wearing it since Sunday and it helps with the pain. Went to my doctor and he ordered an ultrasound. There's no bulge, but he thinks i may have an umbilical hernia. Wow. All this while my reading vision has been going in the shitter. All my life, I've had perfect vision and now I'm wearing reading glasses. So in the last 7 months, I feel like I've been a wreck. Daily pain, crutching around, haven't missed a day of work, and it sucks not being able to get comfortable in your own skin. Maybe it's my age, maybe someone put a curse on me. Who knows. Has anyone else had to deal with a bad year health wise?
Last month, got hit with Viral Menangitis, Asophagitis, and ulcers in my asphogaus all at once. It was pretty awful.
I got laid off when they closed that asbestos factory, and wouldn't you know it, the army cuts my disability pension because they said that the plate in my head wasn't big enough.
I read that. I can't imagine what that must feel like. I lost track of the thread. Have you had surgery on that yet?
I go back to the doctor tomorrow to review the MRI and determine a course of treatment. There is a lot of research now that shows an acute rupture can be overcome with functional physical therapy. The recovery time is the same as surgery and the % of people who did therapy and returned to the same level of activity is the same. The only difference is a slightly higher chance of re-rupture. I'm definitely leaning towards therapy as long as the MRI doesn't show something that has to be fixed by surgery. As far as what it feels like... I have no strength in my ankle. I can move it some but I can't lift at all. I'm in a walking boot that has lifts to keep my foot in a certain position. That means I have to put lifts in my running shoe on the opposite foot so that I can be somewhat even. That's causing pain in my foot. The swelling is mostly gone. It's like I have a huge, very painful knot in my calf (the rupture is higher up, at the top where it connects to the calf muscles, which I'm told is somewhat uncommon) which makes it hard to lay on my back because there's no comfortable position to put my leg. Ice is awesome and the lidocaine patches and cream help. After laying down for a while, man it hurts like hell when the blood rushes back in. This is worse than when I broke my ankle. At least then, the boot was lower and walking was easy.
broke my finger from basketball a little over a month ago and a mild concussion yesterday. Overall not as bad as some of y'all.
I had a year where I had a dislocated knee, dislocated shoulder, broken arm, my gallbladder ruptured and needed to be removed.....all separate instances and a car accident that caused a deep laceration on my nose that needed stitches broke 2 ribs and gave me a pretty rough concussion that I had to deal with for nearly a month. Bad years happen to the best of us.
Had my spleen removed last year and it's been kind of rough ever since. Getting used to my new normal now.
LOL, yeah I don't wish that kind of year on anyone, but it's been long enough ago to look back on and laugh.
twisted the crap out of my ankle this morning. dont think it's broken but I may have to go get it checked for torn tendons because it feels exactly like it did when I tore tendons in my ankle 25 years ago.
Well, I had a year that started with an achilles tear (Oct), then a flareup of the achilles that felt like I tore it a second time, but that turned out to be the os trigonum issue and was treated with cortisone (March). The inactivity from both ankle injuries led to a dvt blood clot in my leg (July). The blood work for the blood clot let to a diabetes diagnosis (Sept), and the blood thinners for the clot prevented me from having surgery on my own umbilical hernia (Oct), so I lived with the hernia pain until I was off the blood thinners and had the surgery (Nov). Thirteen months, but time sure flies when you're having fun. OP I feel your pain, my current meniscus tear is on hold until I get my knee replaced, hopefully this June. I've seen two doctors, one is okay with going ahead with the knee replacement, the other is more conservative and wants to do a bunch of other things first. I feel like I'm just sitting around waiting for something to happen.
Typically if it's enlarged like mine was, or if it ruptured then it's a life threatening situation where they might remove it, sort of like when the appendix bursts. I had an enormous cyst latched onto my spleen that oddly enough impeded blood flow to my left shoulder. When I'd run or do strenuous activity, I'd have a sharp pain in my shoulder. Eventually the pain started to occur in the actual spleen area before I finally went to the doctor for it. 1 ultrasound and CT scan later I was told my spleen needed to be taken out before it ruptured.
This is that year for me. I've never really had any major injuries before and I rarely get sick, but I started the year (2017) with 2 meniscus tears. I was then sick for the first 6 weeks of the year, 3 different things that all started one after another I finally got over being sick in mid-february and proceeded to get a concussion, crack my scapula, and tear my rotator cuff. Then I visited Houston last week for a couple days and nearly died due to allergies Not a great year
