I've been pretty lucky through the years in regards to driving in floods. My rule of thumb is that if I can see the road markings, I'm going to drive through. I was getting a little nervous this morning, though, even with my big Ram pickup truck.

Oh yeah, and this is a public poll. :D

The last time it flooded before today, my car stalled out. I felt so stupid because I had always been very careful in the past. I stalled out right in the middle lane of the beltway feeder. After about half an hour, the rain let up and drained enough that I could push my car up into a parking lot. When I actually managed to get the car started and running again, I went crazy because I thought for sure it would be mega-moola to fix whatever had to be fixed. I will never take that kind of risk again.

I had to get home durning the peak Allison's flooding and if it weren't for a Yukon making my Ranger a path, I might have got stuck.

If you have a passenger, make them walk the water to see how high the level is.

I drove home during Alison (part 2) when everybody was caught off guard. When I left the office, I didn't realize it was gonna be that bad. I made it all the way home and turned into my neighborhood and saw the roof of a VW bug just above water. I quickly pulled down the next street, to keep moving, but unfortunately that street was worse. Just as I was pulling into somebody's driveway, I stalled. No water inside the car but I had a $7,000 insurance claim to recondition the engine.

And when they're swept away and devoured by fire ants, you know you need to turn the car around.

Damn, Max...I thought you knew your Astros history.

June 15, 1976...the only rainout in the history of the Astrodome. Of course, I know you're not THAT old. I probably should have put a smiley...

My VW hatchback was done in by the Great Houston Flood of the Mid-'70's. Hell, whenever it was. I hitched rides in canoes, john boats, a few big trucks, lots and lots of wading, until I made it back to my pad in the S.Shepard/W. Alabama/Richmond area. It was several miles (it flooded going from I-45 towards the SW Freeway and Midtown... I wasn't far from the Pierce Elevated) and several hours, but I made it. The car was never the same after that. A real bummer.
