Has Roy Hibbert's terrible play as of late boosted Asik's trade value?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Swishh, May 6, 2014.

?

Has Asik's trade value gone up a bit?

  1. Yes. Asik is still coveted because of his consistency.

  2. No, his trade value is still quite low due to the fact that he's making 15 million next year.

Roy Hibbert averaged 1.2 rebounds per game in the month of April. The last time he got a double-double was around 90 days ago. This is a 7'2 center we are talking about.

Now I know some people think it will be hard to trade Asik (that is, if Morey wants to in order to shed some cap to sign a big free agent) , but in all honesty, after Hibbert's terrible play ever since the end of the All Star break, I'm sure some GM's will look at Asik and his consistency, and be willing to pay the remaining year of his poison pill contract.

Asik is going to be easy to trade regardless.

8 million cap hit for his awesome defensive play? Easy.

Not sure it boosted Asik's much. It just made Hibbert completely untradable.

0 pts, and 0 rebounds is simply unacceptable for someone who is 7'2, and playing in very critical playoff games. If he continues, and the Pacers lose to the Wizards (which I expect) , Larry will blow up the roster, and I think he'll have a hard time trading Hibbert.

A 3 way trade with Lin/Asik going to the Pacers, Hibbert going to a 3rd team, and Rockets getting the assets from that trade may benefit all teams.

    I'd vote neither.

Asik's value is pretty much the same to any potential trade partners, with or without Hibberts atrocious season. Unless that trade partner is Indiana  I don't think it makes a difference in the grand scheme of things. That's because Hibbert was off limits to trade by Indiana. There was never any indication he was on the trading block. That might change this offseason though.

Asik's value definitely went up, if only for the reason that there's now one more team who desperately needs him: the Pacers.

How did Roy Hibbert go from All Star to Desagana Diop so quickly? Curse of Andrew Bynum?

Damn shame what has happened to that guy. Same time though he shows no sign of adjusting or emotion. Frank Vogel should definitely be held accountable.

I never thought that Asik' was being overpaid. Your going to have to spend a lot to get a guy who's one of the 5 best defensive C's in the game like Asik is. Now Jeremy Lin's contract on the other hand...

Asik lack of fitness during the playoffs didn't do his trade value any good. The guy could hardly move in game 6 after half time.

    I don't see Hibbert's issues anymore relevant than possibly 0.05 %.

The league is still about those PF and C hybrids who are fast, can rebound and shoot jumpers. Not much has changed and it will stay that way.

ASIK'S contract is dirt cheap compared to javale, mcgee, (shaqtin a fool hall of famer) , hibbert and tyson chandler.

The previous WC champions started Oberto and Perkins. I don't see Greg Monroe in the playoffs.

Asik is a good player. The 15 million salary is a little bit much, especially because whatever team had him would know that we just had him for 2 years for a combined 10 million. I still feel like we could find a team that could use him. If Dallas or GSW had him, they probably would have had a good shot at winning their series'.

Asik's trade value went up for 2 reasons. His play late in the season when Dwight was out and his respectable defense on Aldridge.

I don't think the Rockets will have any trouble moving Asik, provided what Morey's demanding in return doesn't frighten away teams.

I don't think the problem was ever Asik's value in a trade. The problem was finding a trade that pleased Morey in terms of contract length and/or talent received. There are numerous teams that would love to have Asik, poison contract be damned, but only a few teams that have what Morey wants.
