he wins a ring this year he surpasses bird but still needs more to pass magic for me.

In 4 years we will look back and LBJ might have 5-6 rings.. and everything else upped by 2... at least...

The guy is a legend. He is a top 5 player of all-time. He just has to prove it with rings/accolades.

 

Above Magic, but not Bird.

Bird will always be the better rebounder (averaged 10 rebs per game), better shooter (90,50,40) and arguably the better passer and post player.

 

Best thing he did was getting out of Cleveland. He is climbing up the list. Needs to win this one to pass magic or bird.

 

Magic's better than Bird so I dunno where you got your stats, Bird did not average a career % of 90, 50, 40. He had like 2 seasons his entire career where he did that and if peak years are gonna be your basis for comparison LBJ had a year he averaged 56% FG and 41% from the 3.

Bird was amazing but Magic was dominant playing the pg position and he was also capable of playing the C position when their center got injured.

If you think about it Magic was actually the MJ to LBJ's Kobe because Magic pioneered the multiple position player, I think it's a shame he got HIV because IMHO Magic could have really cemented his legacy even further if he hadn't had the disease, people might've seen him as the GOAT no matter what MJ did.

Magic is kind iffy, but if 'Bron wins another ring this year then you can make some solid arguments that he's above Magic too.

 

Bird was widely considered better than Magic in the 80's.

Not sure why there is this revisionist history going on.

I would say so, even though I love Bird. I think the main tipping point for me is his FG% - it's been increasing every year! That's amazing. I'd have to see what happens when he declines though. It's easy to prop up players in their prime, but once they're on their way out it's easier to look at their whole body of work.

I think it should be noted, I don't think Kobe is greater than Bird and Magic despite his 5 rings.

 

Judge him when his career is over. Still a long way to go.

I'd rank, in particular order, Kareem, Jordan, Bird, and Magic higher. If he wins another ring, I might move him above Kobe.

There was no consensus in the Mid 80s that Bird was better and by the end of the 80s there was a consensus and 5 titles saying Magic Johnson was the better of the two.
