This is just for us old people, no young people who google crap and pretend they understand the world by listening to trap music and wear Kanye shoes

MURRAY: I was standing right there. Kenny Smith was hyping up Dream like Don King hyping up Mike Tyson, telling him that Robinson was stealing his trophy.

TOMJANOVICH: I looked at Hakeem and was just wondering, as a person, what’s Hakeem feeling now. That was his trophy, and wondering what effect that would have on him. We found out.

OLAJUWON: (Laughs) There’s no way I can change people’s perception of that night. You cannot question the legitimacy of David’s MVP that season. He was the MVP. They won 62 games; he dominated the league. We didn’t win enough games. You have to win.

OLAJUWON: David and I for many years, we would neutralize each other. So at my position, for my team to win in that series, I felt responsible that I had to play like an MVP to neutralize him. So I went on the attack.

All the options are false, right?

It's a regular season award. Hakeem won the one that mattered.

Yes and do you remember Dream ever giving a damn what the sports media thinks? Do you even remember him blatantly wanting to be the MVP?

He only cared about the championship. We know that.

So when some kid tells you that Dream cares about the media and the MVP trophy, they don't understand this dude's motivation.

Cause they live in a world where social media likes are the most important thing period.

    Tinman-
    1. Doesn't care what media says
    2. Doesn't like social media
    3. Makes 3 threads in one day about the media on social media

    Makes sense

Hakeem played 72 games that season...

Olajuwon was the better player - but Robinson dominated in the regular season that year - Hakeem took it to the next level in the playoffs...

    We won the championship...

Better to have the Finals MVP than the regular season MVP... ;) lol

I've always been frustrated with the national media regarding houston sports, just look at the 94 finals garbage (si issue and oj)... Obviously Dream being out and record wasn't great after the initial start, but the reunion of Clyde Drexler and Olajuwon winning it all as a 6th seed is worth it over any MVP trophy, that was huge and another chance for them at the pro level when they didn't get it at UH.

I don't remember Hakeem caring one bit about getting respect from the media. He commanded respect from his teammates and everyone else that shared the court with him through his excellence. I think that, plus respect from the Rockets organization, is what he valued. Respect from the media followed as a byproduct of his excellence and eventual championships. But media attention is not what he played for.

He was pissed the media was slobbering DRob's knob after that 72pt game.

    j/k

Hakeem was arrogant because he always delivered. The media "snub" played a role just like he didn't make All NBA first or 2nd team that year.

Like Jordan, Dream always found anything for motivation. If anything, he had already won the media the year before...

I have long thought that it's always safe to side with Olajuwon when things are open to interpretation. I believe he thought that to beat the Spurs, he'd have to outplay Robinson and so he went out and embarrassed the MVP in order to get the victory. Just as simple as that.

Dream didn't seem angry about anything, just focused on this:

I remember playing NBA Jam... Hakeem had 90 something points, 30+ rebounds and 20+ blocked shots. Robinson had 8 points. Felt so good to beat those Spurs!
