In an argument with a Chicago coworker who is talking down on Hakeem saying that he wasn't part of the dream team since only the 1992 team counts as the dream team. Does anyone have any links to prove that 1996 was also the dream team too? He also says that Hakeem's stats sucked in the olympics and I showed him the article below to say why.

But are there any other things I should know before I go educate his dumb ass.

If Hakeem had been eligible to play for the US team in 1992 he would be on it. He became a naturalized US citizen in 1993.

He was on the 1996 team instead because he was eligible for it by then.

He's right. Only the 92 team is officialy referred to as the Dream Team.

However, people will refer to any USA team since, as the Dream team, so that may be what is confusing people.

are u sure? robinson and ewing had been 1st and 2nd team the previous years and Hakeem wasn't even 3rd team 91-92.

The dream team was 1st team, 2nd team (- hardaway) + magic, larry and college's laettner.

I remember they were calling that team Dream Team II.

There is only one Dream Team.

So, that "dumb ass" is correct.

I remember them being called Dream Team III. "Dream Team" II played in the 94 World Championship in Toronto.

The 1996 team was referred to as "Dream Team II" just like the 2000 team was "Dream Team III". Only after that did they stop calling it the Dream Team

Not to be confused with Dream Team 1B, our current 2012 squad.

Dream wasn't a citizen they'd have dominated even more, and him n DRob
would of blocked every shot....ask him bout the summer of 95 that 6 game series where dream averaged 35ppg 12 boards n 4 blocks....pshhhh oh ya n Jordan
prob wouldn't have wanted him on the team ya right him n Jordan might have been teammates after that show-they'd have been so excited

They (1996 Basketball Team) were refered to as the Dream Team as well. I don't recall Dream ever being a big stats guy in any All Star games or on the Olympic Team.

1992: Dream Team ('92 Barcelona Olympics)
1994: Dream Team II ('94 World Championships)
1996: Dream Team III ('96 Atlanta Olympics)

'96 team didn't have Jordan, so it can't be called the Dream Team.

Simply put, in 1992, Robinson and Ewing were just plain better players than Hakeem. Even if Hakeem was a citizen at the time, there was no way he was going to make it.

92 is when Hakeem demanded a trade. Before 93-94 hakeem had a lot people doubting him. He was considered a malcontent.
