If this does put Memphis in a position that they get better offers for Rudy Gay, then it's actually pretty brilliant. If they aren't able to move Gay for a package good enough to offset the loss of that draft pick, then it's a terrible move. We'll see how it pans out.

As a Rockets fan, I love this deal. It's great to see the Rockets over-take the Cavs as the team with the most cap room. And I'd rather get a draft pick from Chicago than Memphis right now anyhow. If we end up using it, I have a lot more faith in Hollinger than I do the front office in Chicago - and if Rose doesn't fully regain his explosiveness/athletic ability, things will not be looking good for Chicago in the very near future.

It's a good move for Memphis either way. The owner wants to be under the cap, and they weren't a legitimate contender. Now they've got more leverage in Gay talks and if it doesn't work out, they keep him and are still under the cap.

Speights was a valuable rotational big though, I'm surprised they had to package two draft picks to get rid of him and the other two.

Cavaliers looking like they've got a very promising future in the East, as long as they don't reach for players like Dion Waiters though.

I hope this means we have passed the stage where we take on the short term assets whenever we can.

And hope we are going forward to show more commitment to our young cores.

Spieghts was a rental. Shelby is terrible. Ellington is Mr. Inconsistent. The facts are the grizzlies traded 3 guys that they didn't want and they got a guy that I think has the potential to be the best player in the deal. I think Jon Leuer has potential, he just wasn't given the chance after he was traded from the bucks. The Rockets didn't need him.

The pick is an unknown, but seeing how teams regularly sell first round picks, I doubt this pick is going to be anything great. The only truly important draft picks are top 5 picks, which this pick most likely wont be.

I would have traded Patterson alone for Maurice Speights if the cap allows it

Selby is a good pickup for the Cavs. There should be a bit of competition at the 2 between him and Waiters. And if they're able to keep both, the team will be pretty good in a couple of years.

Amazing results so far. Coming off the bench since the trade (7 games):

    Speights: 24 mins, 15 pts, 7 rbs
    Ellington: 20 mins, 9 pts

Cavs 5-2, 3 game winning streak, which is really good for them all things considered.

I'm really happy for Speights as a Cavs and Florida Gators fan. I wonder if/when he moves into the starting lineup.
