A bit heartbroken today....and maybe I'm showing my age a bit here, but Dick Enberg (along with Vin Scully) was the voice of just about every major sporting event I witnessed over the past 4 decades. From Super Bowls to World Series to Wimbledon to the Olympics...Dick covered it all with a fans eye...a true professional who could make everything that much more exciting with his signature call "Oh My!". You could always tell Dick was a fan first and pure class in every sense of the word. I'm gonna really miss him. Rest in Peace. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/12/dic...e-the-drive-elway-helicopter-naked-gun-videos
It's definitely a sad day for sports fans. He was a fixture...like you said. The world is a lesser place without him. RIP and thanks for ingraining your voice in my head over the years. I enjoyed it.
Dick Enberg, the college professor-turned-broadcaster, called the Game of the Century in college basketball, a historic NCAA game between the then-#1 ranked UCLA Bruins and the #2 ranked University of Houston Cougars played on Jan 20, 1968, at the Astrodome in Houston, Tx, with 52,693 in attendance. This was ~ 16 years before Hakeem's Phi Slamma Jamma He had also done broadcast work for MLB, NFL, college footballl, boxing, tennis, Wimbleton, Olympics, track & field, Sports Trivia TV shows, etc. He passed away yesterday, at age 82, at his home near San Diego, CA. RIP
Loved Dick Enberg. What a great announcer. He would always give a player's hometown and even their high school, especially when it was a small town. I especially remember him do Wimbledon when I was a child. Enberg and Keith Jackson, just fixtures of sports growing up. Seemed like just a good guy too. RIP
His work was never about Dick Enberg -- it was always about the game, match, or player. Not sure if a young Enberg would ever be hired today.
